πŸ’š RANSW Advisory Council appoints 3 new Board Directors πŸ’š

On Wednesday 20th May 2026, Regional Arts NSW held our annual in-person Advisory Council meeting, Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Annual Dinner at our office in The Rocks NSW.

Our Advisory Council is made up of the Board Chairs of each member Regional Arts Development Organisation (RADO) from across NSW. We really value this time with our RADO representatives because we can hear their concerns, struggles and successes. We can also stand together as a network of art support organisations to help create a stronger arts sector in regional NSW as a whole.

This year RANSW is farewelling our Board Chair Dr Jane Kreis , Deputy ChairJulia Andrews, Treasurer, Ray Davey and Board Director Lorrayne Fishenden. We would like to sincerely thank all these people for their significant contributions to our organisation as members of our Board. In particular, we would like to thank Jane for her work as our Chair since 2023. We will miss you all very much!

At the AGM the Advisory Council and RANSW Board appointed three new regional Board Directors. We are welcoming Matthew Hall, Leigh Small and Natalie Bramble. We look forward to working with them and value the skills they bring to our Board.

Caroline Downer OAM has been appointed interim Chair of the RANSW Board, Tim Kurylowicz is now our Deputy-Chair and Natalie Bramble will take on the role of Treasurer.

We would like to extend our thanks to the Advisory Council and our Board for travelling to Sydney to meet with us. As our outgoing Board Chair Jane says, β€˜We are stronger together than we are alone’.

πŸ’š REGIONAL ARTS FUND: Dinner Party at the End of the World πŸ’š

'Dinner Party at the End of the World' was a multi-artform program held in 2025, inspired by stories of the Lismore floods. It was produced by Northern Rivers Performing Arts (NORPA) and consisted of a team of artists that led creative development projects, working with Northern Rivers residents.

Artists and participants responded to the climate crisis through a range of performance practices, including theatre-making, play, improvisation, dance and text. Through this, they reflected on stories of community, resilience, and the ways people come together in a time of crisis.

β€œI hope we can show people that no matter what happens, we can build a better future together. The end is also the beginning and I’d love to paint a picture of what could be that doesn’t instil fear but rather hope in our collective humanity. It’s up to artists to show humanity how to change the world. We have to show what’s possible and Lismore did that,” one artist stated.

'Dinner Party at the End of the World' is a testament to the importance of supporting regional creatives, who play a crucial role in cultivating social, economic and cultural cohesion and wellbeing, particularly in response to climate change. The project also shows us that the arts have significant potential to help communities recover from natural disaster.

This project was supported by the Regional Arts Fund, part of the Australian Government’s Arts and Cultural Development Program managed by Regional Arts Australia. Regional Arts NSW administers this grant in NSW and is proud to have been involved in making this project happen.

On Wednesday we had our annual Advisory Council meeting, where the Chairs of the Regional Arts Development Organisations (RADOs) meet in Sydney for in depth conversation.

We love these meetings because we get to hear what’s happening all over the state and connect with all of the RADOs. It helps us all overcome that feeling of isolation that sometimes comes with being a regional organisation. And it helps us keep the network strong so that the arts sector in regional NSW can thrive.

As Jane says, β€œWe’re stronger together than we are alone” πŸ’š

Thank you to all of the Chairs that travelled to join us. We really value our time with you!

πŸ’š ONLINE WORKSHOP: Business Essentials for Creatives πŸ’š

As artists, the first thing we want to do create, and the LAST thing is all the pesky business admin that comes with it.

While it’s not something we can avoid, it can be made much simpler. In this workshop series, Regional Arts NSW CEO Tracey Callinan will guide you through the essentials, breaking down the jargon and helping you build confidence in managing your practice as a business.

Over three, two-hour online sessions, you will learn how to:
➑ Why ABNs are important
➑ Understand when & how to register for GST
➑ Get paid properly for your work
➑ Understand superannuation: what you’re owed and how to contribute
➑ Create a simple, effective budget
➑ Manage your accounts & submit your tax-return
➑ Create an effective CV and portfolio

By the end of the series, you’ll have a clear understanding of the fundamentals, so you can keep the business side of your practice simple and spend more time creating.

We hope to see you there!

πŸ’š Stories of rural regeneration πŸ’š

Artist Greg Pritchard on how he worked to help a community regeneration after natural disaster through the arts and what he like best about our RALLY Assembly event last month

In his experience, co creating the festival with the local community meant that its impact has been ongoing, leading to creatives in the area connecting for the first time and going on to create more events in the future

We really valued RALLY Assembly because we got to connect with people like Greg and hear about what worked for them when regenerating their communities through the arts. Thank you for coming Greg!
