The Rock and District War Memorial, The Rock, New South Wales (near Wagga Wagga) is a large white granite pillar with a statue of a soldier in uniform holding a rifle mounted on top of it. There are various dedications plaques and honour rolls for both the First and Second World Wars attached around the sides of the pillar. The memorial was officially dedicated and unveiled on 28 July 1920.

At a guess this photo was taken after July 1901 when The Rock became a junction location to Lockhart and the eventual terminus of Oaklands.

The Photographer is standing between the Branch Line (to the right) and the No. 1 Up Siding, about 327 miles 29 chains from Sydney.

Apart from the very old school catchpoints you can also see the earth tank built to the right to capture water for the locomotives of the time.

On the trike may have been Charles Hall, Immanuel Sellick or John Dowed, just some names associated with track work at the time.

The white post right of center is probably The up distant off the branch, it was noted on the 1901 diagram as 25 feet tall.

To the far left you can see the main south (opened in September 1880) disappear through a cutting where it curves left and heads towards Albury.

Unfortunately i have no source to credit, but i will take the shellacking from the photographer if identified.
