Last week we were blessed with good weather and wonderful guests at our Tathra Wharf Museum morning tea at Emma and Poppy's deliciously wonderful Wharf Cafe.

Thanks to all that came.

We also had a few certificates and a gift to give to some special guests who support us, and a very special lady and Tathra treasure, Betty Koellner who has been involved with the Tathra community, the wharf and museum for decades. Thank you Betty! ❀️

More photos (including Betty) in another post to come shortly ...

A recent donation to the Tathra Wharf Museum reflects an important bygone era of the Bega Valley.

Presented by former Bega resident Stephen Keft, the framed photo of the Tathra Wharf circa 1920 depicts the wharf with a steamer in the foreground ready to transport passengers, livestock, goods and other cargo from Tathra to Sydney.

Accepting the donation on behalf of the Tathra Wharf Museum, Lynneeta Darmody (president) noted the photo was of immense historical value to the museum and historians.

β€œThe Tathra Wharf has undergone a number of significant upgrades over the years and to see the wharf as it was between the two world wars is so very special,” she said.

After handing the historic photo over Stephen said the Bega Valley would always be his one true home no matter where he lives and he was delighted this impressive photo will now have a permanent home at the Tathra Wharf Museum, where it truly belongs.

THE SINKING OF THE WILLIAM DAWES

83 years ago, the S.S. William Dawes was attacked and sunk off the coast of Tathra, NSW.

This is the story of Lorna Stafford, as told by her daughter Lynne, who spotted the burning ship and reported it to VAOC Moruya.

Special thanks to Tathra Wharf Museum and the Merimbula Old School Museum.

Editor's Remark: Ron Stafford is Lorna's brother not grandfather. He was also an observer during the war.
