We are thrilled to announce Keroshin Govender as FCMG’s 2027 Artist in Residence. As part of the gallery’s residency program, Keroshin will receive a studio rent-free for 12 months, financial support for buying materials and paid an artist fee as he works on the residency’s outcome, a solo exhibition at FCMG. Congratulations Keroshin, we can’t wait to have you working on site with us.
Keroshi is a multi-disciplinary artist working across ceramics, painting, fabric dyeing and installation. His practice explores complexity within the South African Indian community, particularly during apartheid. Rather than centring broad political narratives, he draws from the intimate family stories that recount everyday experiences of love, ambition, hardship, and adventure.
Through layering processes across ceramics, glazing, painting, and dyeing, Keroshin combines archival photographs, patterns, and visual fragments to construct works that both reveal and obscure histories. Personal and community archives—especially family photographs—form the foundation of his practice. By overlapping and concealing visual information, his practice examines how identity is performed, negotiated, and protected within South Asian diasporic communities.
