This week, the Art Gallery of Swan Hill invites you to get creative alongside the Gulgawarnigu: Thinking of Something, Someone exhibition with two special community workshops.

🎨 Digital Drawing Workshop
Thursday 28 May, 4–5pm | Friday 29 May, 11am–12pm
Primary & early high school aged participants (all welcome) | Max 10 places

Inspired by young artists from Roebourne on Ngarluma Country, this workshop uses iPads and Procreate to explore identity, connection, and Country through digital portraiture. Participants leave with a finished artwork they can share — and may even see it featured in the exhibition itself.

🧺 Kelp Creations: rikawa Craft Workshop with Jye
Thursday 28 May, 5:30–6:30pm | All ages | Max 20 places

Palawa man Jye invites you to learn the art of traditional kelp basket weaving — a practice deeply tied to the culture and Country of Palawa people of Lutruwita (Tasmania). A wonderful experience for all ages.

Spots are limited — register now: https://events.humanitix.com/gulgawarnigu-thinking-of-someone-somwhere

You are invited to participate in a workshop for the
Milloo Healing Country project with artist Sandra Kropinyeri
Saturday May 16th,
1.00pm to 3.30pm
The Art Gallery of Swan Hill.

The North Central CMA's Nature-led Community Recovery Program has funded this project and aims to support both the recovery of our region’s waterway biodiversity and communities recovering from the Victorian 2023-2024 storms and flooding.

Our project for 2026 is to create two storylines, one a mural for the Milloo St Wetlands and the other using the canvas of the Art Gallery Ping Pong table.
Come along to the workshop to create your own storyline using mixed media.
The project will enhance our beautiful river precinct, exploring the animals, birds and plants of the river and wetlands, the response to over-bank events (flooding), and the way people deal with and recover after flood events.

During our Urban Riverfront Enhancement project in 2025, several people suggested a mural be done at the wetlands. We estimate that 20,000 people walk past there each year, including many tourists. Let’s proudly tell our story through art, showing the rich culture, biodiversity, our resilience and connection to the natural landscape around us.

The Art Gallery of Swan Hill is proud to present an extraordinary evening celebrating contemporary First Nations storytelling, creativity and cultural connection.

These exhibitions honour the legacy of the late Josh Muir, spotlight the digital innovation of young artists from Ieramugadu (Roebourne), and showcase significant First Nations works from the gallery’s own collection.
