Congratulations to , announced as a finalist in the 2026 Sir John Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales with his work
‘Exchanging culture for lavender (Autumn)’
oil on canvas
189x150cm

One of Australia’s most distinctive contemporary painters, Griggs has built a powerful visual language across painting, film, installation and performance. His work is urgent, uncompromising and deeply alive, drawing from personal experience, political imagery, popular culture, subcultural histories and the raw social energies of the places he has lived and worked.

This latest recognition in the Sulman Prize affirms Griggs’ enduring importance within Australian contemporary painting, and his ability to create works that are both visually electric and psychologically charged.

Congratulations David.

PIERMARQ* in conjunction with is delighted to present ‘Faulty Cognitions’, an exhibition of new work from Sydney-based artist Tom Ferson, with an opening reception this Thursday, April 30, from 6 - 8pm.

Ferson’s work evolves the world immediately around us, in the visual cultures of signage—commerce, transportation, advertising. Channelling ideas of meaning-making from his training as an art therapist, Ferson’s investigations offer fascinating insight into both the experience of meaning but also its sculptural construction.

New work by Nacho Eterno is now at PIERMARQ*.

Barcelona-based artist Nacho Eterno, formerly a tattoo artist and muralist, now has a self-taught practice spanning painting and ceramics. This work is deeply influenced by observations of nature rendered in the architectural, playful styles of outsider art and folk art traditions. His unique characters, often animals, occupy vibrant, abstract landscapes.

Cannon Dill (b. 1991) has a flair for compositions that are both dynamic in their liveliness and abstracted in their stillness.

His naïve depictions of animals, figures, and everyday objects are immediately charming and technically sharp. These tensions - between control and spontaneity, design and expression - form the core of his evolving body of work, which PIERMARQ* will be bringing to the this April.

Close-up details with new work by Maximilian Daniels, on view now at PIERMARQ*.

Vibrant yet translucent, these works bring colour to the fore, juxtaposing a copper-gilded shine with explorations of light and form. Informed and inspired by the weather outside of his Sydney studio, Daniels’ work speaks to a labour of love, a process of observation, dedication, and ritual.

Into other dimensions: PIERMARQ* is excited to present new work by Jeremy Shockley at April 16-19.

Shockley’s playful trompe-l’œil invites us into his magically disorienting worlds, places where our perception becomes unsettled and the canvas itself - its texture, its surface, its frame - transforms into a site of paradox.

Shockley lives and works in Los Angeles, and his works has been exhibited across Europe, the US, Australia, and Asia.

British-French artist Galina Munroe’s still lifes are both organic and abstract, where shifting shapes and forms illustrate the textured surfaces of her canvases.

Munroe’s interspersed florals, dominoes, and daily objects suggest the works’ continuous evolution, as her paintings ebb and flow through multiple stages of conceptual growth.

Mesmerising new work by Maximilian Daniels is on display at PIERMARQ*.

Responding to his studio surrounds in Sydney, particularly the interplay of light, glass, and weather, these paintings develop as observations through slow, repeated layerings of pigment.

PIERMARQ* is thrilled to present an exhibition of new work by Xavier Baxter in March 2026.

This exhibition extends Baxter’s ongoing exploration of the ideas and techniques that have shaped his artistic practice. Born in England into a family of artists, Baxter was exposed from an early age to a wide range of visual traditions, including Stone Age cave painting, cathedral architecture, altarpieces, Old Master works, and contemporary art. Drawing on these diverse art-historical reference points, his work investigates the relationships between figures, focusing on the expressive potential of gesture, posture, and interaction.

PIERMARQ* is pleased to present First Light, an exhibition showcasing the work of some of Australia’s most acclaimed Indigenous artists. The exhibition will be on view from 12 February to 7 March 2026, with an opening reception on Thursday, 12 February from 6–8 PM.

First Light draws its title from the sunrise that illuminates the vast back country, symbolising both the dawn of a new day and the first spark of creation. The exhibition explores ideas of beginnings: the emergence of light, land, and story, and the continuing renewal of artistic expression across generations.

Through vivid fields of colour and intricate mark-making, the participating artists translate ancestral narratives and connections to Country into dynamic contemporary expressions. Each work resonates with the enduring power of Indigenous knowledge systems and the artists’ deep relationship to the land.
