Congratulations Claire van Ryn with both her books going to delight the French people who will also get to know about tiny Stanley the other side of the world featured in Where the Birds Call Her Name.

I’ve been holding onto this news for a while now but can finally share…
πŸ‡«πŸ‡· I HAVE A FRENCH BOOK DEAL! πŸ‡«πŸ‡·
Two in fact. Both my novels Where the Birds Call Her Name and The Secrets of the Huon Wren will be translated into French and published by an imprint of

Am I excited? Bien sΓ»r!
Will I need to make the trip to visit the Paris-based publisher? Mais oui!

The pre-empt deal was brokered by the wonderful Sharon Galant from and supported by Thomasin Chinnery and Benython Oldfield. Thank you to my legendary agents πŸ’› And thank you to my French publisher Glenn Tavennec for believing in my writing. I cannot wait to see French readers embrace these stories of family secrets, unlikely relationships, hope and the wonders of the Tasmanian environment.

Wonderful news! St Paul's Church has received grant funding from the Tasmanian Government's Built Heritage Scheme 2025-26 in order to facilitate exterior repairs. This will enable the building to be weather proofed for winter and looking great in time for Stanley's Bicentenary activities 31st October until 2nd November. The Museum Hall was refurbished in 2023 with thanks to Tasmanian Government funding. A fantastic result for Stanley's heritage and community. Thanks to Roger Jaensch MP for his support.

A great story! Lovely to meet Erika when she visited. The message in the bottle can be seen at the Stanley Museum.

A great story! Lovely to meet Erika when she visited. The message in the bottle can be seen at the Stanley Museum.

One night in 1997, fuelled by boredom, trainee ship bartender Erika Boyero filled some empty bottles with handwritten notes and threw them overboard in Norway. Last week, she met with the Tasmanian woman who found one of her messages.

It was great to welcome the Premier, Jeremy Rockliff and Roger Jaensch MP recently to inspect St Paul's Church which is an integral part of the Museum experience. In 2021 the State Liberal Government provided funding for the purchase of the Museum property including the Church as well as additional funding for the refurbishment of the Museum Hall. The property is a great asset to the community. The volunteers are looking forward to Stanley's Bicentenary celebrations over the long weekend in November 2026. The Premier surprised Life Member Margaret with a presentation on behalf of the volunteers on the occasion of a special birthday. Thank you also for the new Tasmanian flag which is flown with pride.
