Congratulations to Clare Jaque Vasquez, who is a finalist in the 2O26 John Leslie Art Prize at Gippsland Art Gallery with her work ‘Billowing dreams and the shadows that once danced’ 2O25.

Inaugurated in 2OOO, the prize has emerged as one of the country’s most respected showcases for contemporary landscape printing, awarding a $3O,OOO acquisitive grand prize.

Winners will be announced O4.O9.2O26

Save the date: Nathanael Edwards — The Weight of Silence opens Wednesday 19.O8.2O26, 6 — 8 pm.

Join us at the offical opening and artist reception of emerging artist Nathanael Edwards’s first solo exhibition at Vivien Anderson Gallery.

‘The Weight of Silence’ features a series of photographic works that explore the deliberate silences in Australia’s colonial history. The exhibition invites viewers to listen to enduring stories, transforming silence into testimony and reclaiming memory as a powerful act of justice.

Now open: James Tylor’s solo, ‘Turrangka…in the shadows’ at the Art Gallery of South Australia.

Showing at its final venue, ‘Turrangka…in the shadows’ surveys over a decade of Tylor’s practice, bringing together the most comprehensive selection of his unique daguerreotypes, expansive digital photographic series, hand made Kaurna cultural objects and furniture.

Congratulations to gallery-represented artists Maree Clarke, Nathanael Edwards, Kent Morris and James Tylor, who have been selected as finalists in the 2O26 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize at the Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh).

Over the last 21 years, the Bowness Photography Prize has emerged as an important annual survey of contemporary photographic practice in Australia and one of the most prestigious prizes in the country,
awarding a grand prize of $5O,OOO and $2,5OO to two honourable mentions.

Winners will be announced on Thursday 17.O9.2O26.

This year’s judges are Natasha Bullock, Petrina Hicks and Anouska Phizacklea.

Join us tonight in celebration of Gomeroi/Kamilaroi artist Clare Jaque Vasquez’s new body of work that honours the pain and loss of the Millennium Drought alongside the resilience of the land and the generations of Gomeroi/Kamilaroi women who witnessed both hardship and beauty before her. Rendered in Vasquez’s signature impasto, these paintings weave grief, memory and renewal into a single, breathtaking surface.

An exciting new project is underway at the Australian Tapestry Workshop: the creation of Maree Clarke and Mitch Mahoney’s monumental 7 x 3 metre tapestry, ‘The Rhythm of the Reeds’. Commissioned for the Australian National Academy of Music’s (ANAM) new $11O million home at the South Melbourne Town Hall, the artwork will take eight months to complete. A dedicated team of eight weavers, dyeing specialists, and support staff are currently bringing the piece to life, using 250 custom-dyed shades of Victorian wool.
