Our fave Mary-Theresa Ritchie has dropped off some new bronze artworks for the gallery! They are just so fun and quirky.

Based in Gordon within the Moorabool Shire, Mary-Teresa works primarily with the traditional lost wax bronze casting process, creating one-of-a-kind sculptural pieces filled with humour, character, and personality.

Introduced to bronze casting in 2015, Mary-Teresa has developed a unique series of “imps” that balance playful charm with a slightly tormented appearance, inviting viewers to smile, laugh, and perhaps see a little of themselves reflected within the forms. Each sculpture begins as a wax model before being transformed through the complex lost wax casting process into solid bronze, then carefully cleaned and patinated by hand.

While her sculptures are deeply expressive, Mary-Teresa describes them not as manifestations of hidden darkness, but as light-hearted and imaginative works intended to spark connection and curiosity. Influences from the ceramic “Angels” of John Percival can also be felt throughout the work.

Alongside sculpture, Mary-Teresa also works across charcoal, pastel, oil paint, clay, permanent marker and mixed media, embracing materials intuitively and experimentally.

Visit us weekends 11–4 or by appointment to experience these wonderful bronze characters in person.

Introducing works by Ballarat-based printmaker Amanda Western for Ballarat Printmakers 2026 at Ross Creek Gallery

Western’s practice explores how places hold memory, tension and transformation through printmaking, material process and spatial form. Her latest body of work, Under Pressure, traces shifting landscapes through disruption, compression and instability, moving between clarity and fracture through line, surface and light.

Working across linocut and drypoint, these works combine delicate print processes with layered painted surfaces, creating atmospheric compositions that reflect on pressure within both landscape and material.

Western is a finalist in the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize, Glover Prize and John Villiers Outback Art Prize, and was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the Pro Hart Outback Art Prize and Sunshine Coast National Art Prize.

Featured works include Standing Ground, Holding Light, Breaking Form, Compressed Field, After Trace and Ballarat Underneath, 1870, a major linocut forming part of Lantern Vaults, a site-responsive installation presented during the Ballarat Heritage Festival.

Introducing the work of Peter Laqua in Ballarat Printmakers 2026 at Ross Creek Gallery.

Peter Laqua is a multidisciplinary artist and nurse whose practice explores resilience, vulnerability, care and the human condition through printmaking, sculpture, installation and found materials. Drawing from over 25 years working within healthcare, his work reflects lived experiences of endurance, recovery and survival.

In his series Impressions of Strength (2026), Laqua combines traditional linocut with layered monoprint processes to explore resilience as something deeply physical, shaped by repetition, pressure and adaptation. Through textured surfaces, repurposed materials and powerful figurative imagery, the work quietly critiques disposability while celebrating dignity, hope and human connection.

These works invite audiences to pause and reflect on the extraordinary strength found within everyday life.

We are open today and Sunday 11-4. Please come by 😀

Introducing artist Jessica Schroeter, part of the upcoming Ballarat Printmakers 2026 exhibition at Ross Creek Gallery.

Jessica’s practice combines printmaking with a strong foundation in painting and drawing, resulting in richly layered works that feel both personal and experimental. Originally moving to Ballarat from the Surf Coast to study Visual Arts, she has since exhibited across local, regional and national platforms while also becoming a passionate educator and mentor for emerging artists.

Her latest body of work explores themes of upheaval, grief, memory and recovery. Through the use of found and upcycled materials, Jessica expands traditional printmaking processes in innovative ways, creating limited-edition works that carry an intimate and ephemeral quality. Deeply autobiographical, these prints are dedicated to her family — past and present — reflecting on connection, loss and resilience through process-driven mark making and layered imagery.

We are excited to share Jessica’s thoughtful and emotionally resonant works as part of this exhibition celebrating contemporary printmaking practices across Ballarat and beyond.

We are open again this weekend 11-4 or by appointment. Just DM or email us for a private appointment.
