During the morning the society will also have a table at Rosedale Sunday Market selling books on the history of Rosedale. The museum is also open to the public every Tuesday from 10am till 12 Noon. October is History Month!
Sale Family History Group Talk- Doctors in Sale
Sale or Flooding Creek, as was known in the early days, had many good doctors over the years and the stories of five of them will be detailed in the talk by Heather Pocknall of the Sale Family History Group.

Early Doctor’s Arbuckle, Ewing, Rennie, Hedley and Lightfoot will be the subjects and the description of their search for adventure and advantage, while trying to conduct medical practices in Flooding Creek and surrounds.

Early medical treatments appear somewhat bizarre to our community today as there was no anesthesia, appendicitis was always fatal, no caesarean births, no x-rays or blood examinations and no insulin for diabetics.

About 50% of patients didn’t survive surgery, there were no vaccines and the prognosis for diseases like Smallpox, Tuberculosis, Whooping Cough, Typhoid, Tetanus, Diphtheria and Poliomyelitis was poor with no treatment available. How things have progressed for the better in subsequent years.

The Annual General Meeting of the Rosedale and District Historical Society will take place on Sunday 15th March at 1.30pm. The history of the town is an important part of the overall Gippsland history so join us to help us preserve that history

Annual membership of the society is a very reasonable $20.00 and to vote in the election, members need to be financially current.
Rosedale RSL President Brett Wilson will chair the society elections and following the meeting will speak about changes to RSL Victoria and how they might affect the smaller RSL sub branches like Rosedale.

Following the talk afternoon tea will be provided.
The society’s rooms are open to the public every Tuesday from 10am till 12 noon and the second Sunday of the month, 1.30pm till 4pm.

The Rosedale and District Historical Society will be closed today Tuesday 3rd February due to a shortage of volunteers. The museum will reopen on Sunday afternoon 8th February at 1.30pm following the Sunday market and then every Tuesday from 10am till 12 noon and the second Sunday of the month following the market. The R&DHS OP Shop will be closed for the holidays from 19th December til 6th of January 2026. Thank you to all our customers and donators for making this a great year for us.
