Sculptures Out Back thanks this year's judging panel: Catherine Clark Dowden Artwork , Kyle Mansfield and Claire Murphy.

Catherine brought her own background in painting to the panel, an artist's eye trained in a different medium but the same instinct for form and composition. Kyle has entered the Sculptures Out Back himself in past years, so he judges with a first-hand understanding of what it takes to get a piece from concept to the creek. Claire is an established sculptor in her own right, adding a working artist's perspective on process and craft that few judging panels get to draw on.

Three different vantage points on the one artform, brought together for our 2026 Judging panel. We're grateful beyond measure for the time and effort you made to be our judges this year.

"After the Deluge" by Yamba Artist Jude McBean captures the light perfectly!
Oil on canvas, 65cm x 95cm, $900. It can be seen in the Roma on Bungil Gallery.
Jude grew up in Inverell and moved between the black soil plains of Goondiwindi and Yamba. She graduated from the Collage of Fine Arts, UNSW, Sydney and worked in regional NSW as an artist and art educator.
This landscape tells the story of flooding on the black soil plains.

This superb ceramic vase called "Ebb and Flow " has been created by artist Max Powell, from Glen Innes in Northern NSW. It is stoneware with layered glaze 98cm x 38cm and can be in your garden for $1,400.
Extruded clay pipes are the starting point for his series of tall floor vases and the layering of glazes and repeated firing gives a rich tactile narrative to the finished form. The surface layers are developed by glaze on glaze through dipping, pouring, spraying and with multiple firings. Make sure you find time to pop in and view his lovely work.

There are some wonderful art works to be viewed in the Roma on Bungil Gallery at present thanks to artists, Jude McBean, Skye McKenny, Max Powell and Bruce Zietsch and their exhibition "Roaming". They are very talented artists and it is a pleasure to have their works showing in Roma.

Thank you to the Western QLD Spirit distillery for a relaxing tasty lunch on Sunday. The artists from Yamba and their many friends thoroughly enjoyed their visit there after the exciting opening of the Exhibition, "Roaming", in the Roma on Bungil Gallery, that was on Friday evening.
