Portland Art Purchase Society Inc. Portland NSW Art Exhibition - Bringing you the best art show in the Central West for 48 years

The exhibition, which is highly rated in NSW allows a great diversification of artists to present and show their work. A voluntary committee of approximately 14 people organise the exhibition which attracts enormous crowds to our small village. Every year we have record sales and attendance and are possibly the 3rd top selling exhibition in the State attracting artists from all over New South Wale

s. The Society has donated two-thirds of the exhibition's profit back into the community for the past 45 years. Due to outstanding sales in recent years, donations have gone to worthwhile charities, six local schools, Men's Shed, Wallnuts, Portland Pool, Bush Fire Brigade.

Prize Winners 2026

An enormous thank you to our prize section sponsors: The Foundations Portland (Ron Bidwell and Mary Hampton Portland Art Prizes) and Joe Penn and Lesley O'Shea (Simply Drawing Prize). It is through their ongoing commitment and generosity that we are able to continue these sections as part of our exhibition. The prize sections offer artists the opportunity to think beyond their usual comfort zone with a creative prompt, and a frame for judges to evaluate.
This year as part of our 50th Celebrations we provided our Diners Amid the Art the role of being special guest judges for Theme Section. This year's theme was Reflections of Portland.
Diners voted for their favourite artworks.
The First, the Ron Bidwell Prize, was awarded to Sue McNiven with Remnants of Time.
The Second - the Mary Hampton Prize was awarded to Cathy Egan with Cement Works Renaissance.
The Simply Drawing Prize, judged by Joe and Lesley, went to Karen James with her drawing Chooks and Ducks in Snow.
The memorial Sue Banning Packer's Prize, selected by the Committee, was awarded to Sue Gasser's Duo Cockatoos.

Formally 50 Years!
Opening Night this year saw our formalities return to celebrate this incredible milestone. Many kind words were shared from Vice Chairperson Elizabeth Irvine; Federal Member Andrew Gee; State Member, Paul Toole; and Lithgow Mayor, Cassandra Coleman.

It was a fitting moment to recognise the long time service of past committee members Jacquie Terry, 25 years, and and Maree Statham 17 years including 12 years as Chairperson. Volunteer service as we all know is extremely hard to secure so it was a great opportunity to acknowledge these incredible years given to The Art Society and our local community.

Cutting of the cake by current Chairperson Barb Moran and Vice Chairperson Elizabeth Irvine concluded proceedings.

2024 - 2025 Winner Emerging Artist Grant: Laura Scott

Laura Scott is an aspiring artist from Meadow Flat NSW.

Her passion lies strongly with Printmaking, specifically lino and copper etching. Laura has a love for fine details and pattern work, while also having a love for fine line and pencil drawings.
Laura graduated High School in 2024 and is taking a gap year in 2025.

After deferring offers from both National Art School and University of Sydney. Where she will study a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2026 at one of these Universities.
Laura's practice features landscapes and capturing memories. In 2023 Laura was accepted into The National Art School's HSC intensive workshops. Here Laura found her love for cooper etching. This course held over two weeks led her to take a short course in 2024, travelling to Sydney every Saturday for 8 weeks. This allowed Laura to include 2 copper etches in her HSC Major Work.
This year Laura wants to expand her practice of lino to incorporate hand colouring, as well as exploring mediums of painting, ceramics and colour drawing. This year Laura is starting to find her way into the art world outside of High school. She is wanting to take more short courses through National Art School and with local artists.
Artists that have played influence to Laura's practice are Cressida Campbell, Margret Preston and Rachel Newling.
'Poplar Lane' a lino of Meadow Flat, highlights the lane in Autumn with the sun beaming through the leaves. Laura has used detailed pattern work to walk the viewer through the lane way. Laura's farm and the Portland area being of inspiration to Laura's practice.
