Hi, my name is Wren and I live in Telegraph Point, and I am 14 years old. I have always loved making art. As a kid I remember being inspired by the illustrations in children’s books. Art has always been a way for me to find serenity and stillness in a chaotic world.

Blue feathers feels like a very personal painting because my calling for art has always been nature and birds. I love to illustrate movement and shifting forms in nature, through expression and texture and body language in a way that no string of words can capture.

Port Macquarie visual arts student Mackenzie Lambert, 15, came to our attention when she exhibited an artwork called ‘Gilded Beauty’ in the Luminance JOY exhibition last year. Macky makes a welcome return for the 2026 ArtWalk X Luminance Young Artists Exhibition, with another luminous still life, ‘Softly Falling Apart’.

Says Macky: ‘This artwork shows a faded bouquet in a simple vase. I created this piece to represent the teenage journey, when everything can feel uncertain. The artwork reflects how teenagers are still becoming who they are - imperfect, emotional, and evolving - yet still strong and quietly beautiful through it all.’

1. Macky Lambert, Softly Falling Apart, acrylic and oil on canvas, 40cm x 30cm.

1. Macky Lambert, Gilded Beauty, oil pastel on paper, 44cm x 33cm.

The ArtWalk X Luminance Young Artists Exhibition runs from 1 - 7 June in the Make Space pop up. Shop 50, Ground Floor, Gowings Port Central Shopping Centre, opposite BookFace Port Macquarie.

For ArtWalk on Friday 5 June, 5pm - 9pm, we’re in the marquee on Town Green.

We have artworks by 16 young local artists. We’d love you to come see the show. Preview online at luminancegallery.com.au

From every angle there’s a reflection, writes 24-year-old Jake Durbin from Bowraville on the NSW Mid North Coast.

‘People, objects and life. The brightness and the shadows of still life artworks really appeal to me. Yellow is my aunt’s favourite colour and a lot of my art is because of her influence.’

Jake Durbin, Reflection Between Us, acrylic on canvas, 40cm x 50cm.

Jake is one of 16 talented young artists featured in the ArtWalk X Luminance Young Artists Exhibition, 1 - 7 June 2026 in Port Macquarie CBD.

We’ll be in the pop-up space at Gowings Port Central, shop 50, opposite Bookface, from 1 June to 7 June.

For ArtWalk on Friday 5 June, we’re in the inflatable marquee on Town Green. Come visit!

Portraits by Sha-lohm Jamieson, Alycia Lipovac, Dhavve Manoharan and Charlotte Rabie add lustre to Port Macquarie’s upcoming ArtWalk X Luminance Young Artists Exhibition.

Sha-lohm Jamieson, 24, is showing ‘luminary’, gouache and pencil on paper, 30cm x 21cm.

When creating this piece, Sha-lohm says, I was thinking about being present and in the flow. Reflecting on it brings a feeling of wonder and hopefulness - looking to a light source beyond what we can fully see. What possibilities await the subject and us - the viewer?

Indigenous perspectives are a welcome presence in the Port Macquarie ArtWalk X Luminance Young Artists Exhibition

In ‘Our Country - Oxley Beach’, Hayley Galea-Elson 18, uses an aerial image of Oxley Beach to illustrate ties to country and community.

“As a Biripi person, I wanted to incorporate my cultural identity while portraying a location that holds personal significance. The footprints represent my community's presence and journey, demonstrating the link between people and the earth.

“My mob and totems are represented by the eagle and kangaroo. I convey the land, ocean, and life within it through pattern and dot work, emphasising travel, belonging, and the continuous tie between my people and my country,” Hayley says.

In ‘Stories We Share’, Keira Graham, 17, shares her passion for Indigenous storytelling.

“When I was four years old, I stepped into a new home and a new family. Everything felt unfamiliar—but Grandma was there. Her presence was strong, warm, and constant. She didn’t live with us, but she was always close—visiting, calling, and showing up in the quiet ways that made me feel safe and loved.”

In ‘Beating Heart - My life as I Know It’, Melodie Cicak, 22, depicts a life “marked by moments of instability and learning how to survive when home no longer felt safe.”

Says Melodie: “Loss, displacement and struggles with identity have at times created deep disconnection.

“All of these experiences carry meaning, forming a winding path forward. Throughout it all, my heart continues to beat, steady and present.

“With time, distance and diving into this artwork I have found my way back to what was once lost.”

1. Hayley Galea-Elson, Our Country - Oxley Beach, paint pens & acrylic paint on canvas, 40cm x 50cm.

2. Keira Graham, Stories We Share, acrylic paint& posca on canvas, 100cm x 100cm.

3. Melodie Cicak, Beating Heart - My life as I Know It, acrylic paint pens on paper, 65cm x 78cm.

“I grew up around the NSW Mid North Coast and have many amazing memories of the places and coastal scenes I love. I enjoy capturing and painting the enviroment and places that I feel most connected to, bringing those special locations and experiences to life through my art,” Luke says.

“Tacking Point Lighthouse, a place deeply special to me. More than a building, it represents the calm before a morning surf, the sight of whales and dolphins, and the radiant golden light. It is a place of memories and nostalgia, filled with abounding joy.”

Lana Cooper, 18, from Wauchope has entered this beautiful watercolour painting in the ArtWalk X Luminance Young Artists Exhibition.

“I chose this little wattlebird because I love how energetic and playful they seem, always hopping around and exploring everything. I wanted to capture that sense of curiosity and personality in the piece, while also showing the softness and detail of its feathers.

“I really enjoy creating art that is inspired by nature, especially birds and wildlife, because there is so much beauty in the small details people often miss. “

Do you have an artwork to enter in this exhibition?

Entries close on Tuesday 5 May; now’s the time to enter.
