The Museum is housed in the beautiful heritage-listed stone station
building and the nearby freight shed at Port Lincoln. The parcels
office, ticket office and Stationmaster’s office are largely unchanged
from when they were in active use. Two other rooms now house the
Museum’s documentary and photographic archives. Larger displays are at the freight shed, including track displays, some
gangers’ t

rollies and an early fettlers’ tent. A few items of freight
rollingstock round out the collection with some examples of vehicles
that ran only on the Eyre Peninsula lines. There are also some early
work train vehicles from the Commonwealth Railways which were
last used on BHP’s Coffin Bay Tramway at Port Lincoln.

Oops! Sometimes extreme heat causes disruptions to rail services. Likewise, today's heat (Wednesday 7 January) means the Port Lincoln Railway Museum will be closed for the day. Open again on Wednesdays from 14 January.
The photo shows a grain train stopped short of a heat buckle at Wanilla, 18 November 2007 (exactly 100 years since the opening of the line).

Our long-awaited new book "Adelaide was Far Away" has arrived from the printers, ready to enjoy! Ian Manning spent two weeks riding trains on all lines of the Port Lincoln Division in January 1961, recording his observations and experiences. Thankfully he had his camera with him, and now gives us some delightful photographic and descriptive insights into how it was before the arrival of the first diesel locomotives.
Being so far removed from Head Office, things didn't always happen according to the rules! Sixty years later, Ian was now comfortable for his story to be told. Unfortunately he passed away before the book was published, but he has left us with a priceless collection of images and anecdotes.
A4 size, 82 pages, $30 plus p&p. Available through the Port Lincoln Railway Museum website at https://www.eprps.org.au/new-books.html.
