Usually known for our chairs made by Liz Gannon of Once Upon a Chair, this particular throne is an art piece by Hana Assafiri, known best for her work through The Moroccan Soup Bar. This chair invites the viewer to disrupt, to accept permission, to sit, and even to stay (second photo). To occupy space, to take up room. Something women - and marginalised/vulnerable people - are never encouraged to do - and are often actively prevented from doing. Her colourful paintings, with similar messaging, are on the wall behind. All currently on show at Blarney Books & Art. We’re open daily through the school holidays, from 11am.
