No, I'm not going Batty! I'm just preparing my entries for the upcoming Bats and Belonging exhibition at Untether Gallery Geelong.
This is "Fruit of Bat".
The bat and the fig co-evolved. Not only is the fig an important source of food for the bats, the bats are important pollinators and seed distributors for the fig.
They belong to the same environment and the same cycle of life despite us savoring one and calling the other a nuisance.
Your fig would not have evolved without the bat so don't get angry when the bat comes and eats some of your figs.

"Seeking Roost" was sculpted today.
I couldn't sleep so this was sculpted early this morning as the dark turned to light and the bats returned to roost from the night.
Then this afternoon after the clay had set a bit I undeglazed them black and sgraffito carved into their wings.
Lightening flashes, shaped like the veins within their wings as they fight the building wind.
Fires start to roar.
The blinding light of the flames casting fear and confusion.
The smoke making it even harder to see, harder to smell home.
They'll continue to seek roost far too long into the heat of the day.
Yet another whose home has been destroyed by the wild flames.
Collapsed with exhaustion, unnoticed on the side of a road, many kilometers from their tree top home.
Inspired by a deceased flying fox I found on the side of the road on a trip into town the day after the fires started in the Otways.
This will be touched up when dryer to bring out the terracotta lines more then fired, glazed and fired again in a couple of weeks time.
Fingers crossed it shrinks enough to fit in my kiln! Going to be a tight fit.

Hope you all had a nice Christmas and New Year!
I'll be at The Bridge Market in Bridge Mall Ballarat tomorrow from 9am till 1pm with my ceramic creations, jewellery and frame drums. It's going to be a beautiful, sunny day and there's lots of great stalls to peruse. Worth the visit and I'd love to see you if you come by my stall for a chat.

Hi 👋
I'm running an informal Crystal Wand or Staff making workshop next Tuesday the 16th of December at the Pomborneit North Hall (Just off the highway at Pombo Mart).
No ritual or schedule just come when you can, chat, create and connect. I'll be there from 5pm, last arrival by 7pm, finishing up around 8:30-9pm but leave as you are done, please give yourself 1.5 hours minimum to make your creation.
We will be using Apoxie Sculpt to attatch crystals and sculpt designs on wooden sticks to turn them into wands or magical wizard staffs depending which you prefer and the size of your stick.
$85 per person including all materials. Lots of crystals included and you can purchase extras on the night if you want. Payment on the day via cash or card. Bookings essential.
Byo stick or I have a small selection to choose from including some drift wood. Byo things you might like to include in your creation such as crystals, bracket fungus, shells, feathers, bones, old jewellery.
