"There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island."
Walt Disney (American entrepreneur, animator, writer, voice actor and film producer.)
You can never go wrong with a good book for a Christmas present !
Join us on Saturday 6th December from 3pm for our Christmas Markets followed by Carols at 5.30pm. Bring along a chair or blanket and sing along to your favourite Xmas tunes.
Two of our stall holders this year are successful female fiction writers whose books are based on accurate historical research.
Come along and chat with the authors Dr Karen Thurect and Carmel Audsley and pick up a couple of great Christmas gifts .
Dr Karen Thurecht has a PhD in medical anthropology and specialised in Indigenous Health and Aged Care. Starting her career traipsing through the jungles of Papua New Guinea and the tropics of Australia, Karen has published articles in professional journals in relation to both Indigenous Health and Aged Care and has previously published two non-fiction books. All Karen’s fictional books reflect her experience and interest in social history, the history of medicine, and themes of overcoming oppression.
Although the actual murders are fiction, each book is based on accurate historical research on
the people, places, and circumstances of those periods in Queensland.
Carmel McMurdo Audsley lives in Brisbane, Australia and, after a career as a Journalist and Editor, now researches and writes historical fiction novels set in Scotland. Carmel also publishes a monthly e-magazine for ex-pat Scots in Australia. “The research for a book is an ongoing process,” Carmel said.
“Details are very important when writing historical fiction.’
