There’s something pretty special about being able to experience history up close.

At the museum, you’re not just walking past displays, you can open and look inside some of the trucks and tanks, explore the vehicles properly and get a feel for what they were really like.

It’s a hands-on experience that both kids and adults can enjoy!

Come and see it all for yourself at the Nungarin Museum https://nungarinmuseum.com.au/about

What makes our museum truly special isn’t just the collection, it’s the people behind it.

Run by dedicated volunteers, the Nungarin Heritage Machinery and Army Museum exists thanks to the passion and hard work of locals who care deeply about preserving history.

From maintaining exhibits to welcoming visitors, every effort helps keep these stories alive for future generations.

Next time you visit, take a moment to appreciate the community spirit that keeps this place running.

Before tanks could move and battles could be fought, supplies had to get there first.

This GMC CCKW “Deuce and a Half” was one of the true workhorses of WWII. Built between 1941 and 1945, these 6x6 cargo trucks transported fuel, ammunition, troops and equipment across some of the harshest conditions of the war.

With more than 500,000 produced, they became one of the most important military vehicles of the Allied war effort, trusted for their toughness and reliability wherever they served.

Today, this piece of wartime history is preserved here at the Nungarin Museum for visitors to experience up close!

There’s something pretty incredible about standing beneath a Huey helicopter and realising just how much history it carries.

The Bell UH-1H Iroquois became the workhorse of Australian defence, used for troop transport, medical evacuations, search and rescue missions and more. While many recognise the Huey from the Vietnam War, these helicopters continued serving with the Australian Army right through to the late 1980s.

Today, this one stands proudly at the museum as a reminder of the people, missions and moments it once supported.

Come visit us at the Nungarin Museum and experience it up close for yourself!

Exhibit feature: 1941 Chevrolet Mobile Field Workshop

Built in 1941, this Chevrolet Mobile Field Workshop was designed to keep vehicles running wherever they were needed. Instead of bringing machinery back to base, repairs could be carried out on-site, saving valuable time during operations.

This particular vehicle was generously donated by J. Sewell and now forms part of our growing collection of military transport and support vehicles.

It highlights the behind-the-scenes work that kept equipment moving and operations running smoothly. Come and see this impressive vehicle for yourself on your next visit.

There’s no substitute for seeing these vehicles in person.

From massive army trucks and tanks to machinery that played a real role in Australia’s wartime history, every corner of the museum has something worth stopping and looking at.

A lot of these vehicles were built to work hard and last, and many still carry the marks and character of the jobs they once did.

We’re proud to help preserve these stories and share them with everyone who walks through the doors.

Photographs have a unique way of capturing moments that words alone cannot describe.

Our collection includes real photographs from Vietnam, France and many other places where Australians served. These images offer powerful glimpses into daily life, friendships and moments experienced far from home.

Some are confronting, some are quiet and reflective, but all tell important stories worth remembering. Come and explore these photographs and see history through the lens of those who lived it.
