MILLIONS ARE GETTING MORE SUPPORT — BUT ANOTHER FINANCIAL BATTLE IS LOOMING

A major change is arriving in September, creating a complicated picture for Australians relying on income support. Payments are increasing for millions, with pensions, JobSeeker and parenting payments receiving boosts from September 20. But inflation has come in worse than expected, intensifying concerns about another interest rate rise. The government is also tightening how income from savings, investments, stocks and other assets is assessed. Deeming rates will rise from 1.25 per cent to 1.75 per cent on assets below set thresholds, while higher assets are assessed at 3.75 per cent. More money is coming in — but what happens when the rules change too?

Australia May Be About To Draw A New Line Around Smart Glasses

A growing privacy battle is forcing the federal government to confront technology that can record people without their knowledge. Attorney-General Michelle Rowland has not ruled out an import ban on smart glasses, while acknowledging “very deep concerns” about their potential impact. Researchers warn the devices could create new opportunities for covert surveillance, stalking and harassment, particularly affecting women and children. At the same time, the government is preparing sweeping privacy reforms, including IDLock and a proposed “right to erasure” for personal data held by major digital platforms. The government says regulating harmful behaviour is the priority. But if concerns continue to grow, could banning the technology eventually become unavoidable?

A new political “ring of fire” is reportedly forming around Sydney — and One Nation is at the centre of it. New polling has Pauline Hanson’s party surging to 38% in regional NSW, 34% in the Hunter and Newcastle, and 31% in outer and middle Sydney. Researchers describe the movement as a major shift away from the traditional parties, with One Nation’s federal support roughly tripling since early 2025. The biggest surprise may be where some of the new support is coming from: households earning more than $150,000 reportedly increased from 10% to 24%. With the NSW election less than seven months away, Chris Minns now faces a growing challenge from a party that hasn’t even announced its state candidates yet.

Hanson Fires Back As Labor And One Nation Collide Over Political Violence

A bitter confrontation has erupted between Pauline Hanson and the Albanese Government after Attorney-General Michelle Rowland linked One Nation to extremists and neo-Nazis. Hanson says Labor has “crossed the line” and accused ministers of using language that could encourage threats against One Nation supporters. Rowland rejected that argument, telling ABC radio that Hanson should examine her party’s conduct and the people it associates with. The clash comes after Albanese himself described One Nation as “dangerous” and “divisive”. Hanson insists the government should ask why voters are leaving Labor rather than demonising them. With accusations flying from both sides, and online threats remaining a concern, who will face the biggest political backlash?

Australia’s Property Market Is Turning Into A Battle Between Buyers And Sellers

A dramatic shift is unfolding across Australia’s housing market as buyers retreat and sellers face increasingly difficult conditions. CBA has warned of a 9 per cent national peak-to-trough decline, with Sydney potentially falling 13 per cent. Cotality says 93 per cent of capital-city suburbs recorded declining values through winter, while advertised listings are now 24 per cent higher than a year ago. At the same time, auction clearance rates remain under pressure, showing weaker buyer demand. Property economist Cameron Kusher says only people who really need to sell are bringing homes onto the market. Buyers, meanwhile, are being told significant discounts may now be available. Who holds the advantage?

Labor, Liberals And One Nation Are Heading For A Three-Way Battle

Victoria’s November election is shaping up to be an extraordinary contest, with three political forces fighting over Labor’s former strongholds. Tony Barry of Redbridge believes traditional Liberal seats in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs are swinging back to the Coalition, while One Nation could seize several regional electorates from Labor. That creates a difficult situation for Premier Ben Carroll, whose government is already under pressure following the secret public transport tax scandal. The Coalition says it can win a majority without relying on One Nation preferences, while One Nation insists its rise is rejecting the established two-party system. With voting patterns becoming increasingly fragmented, who will actually control Victoria after election day?

China’s Warning Has Exploded Into A Pacific Diplomatic Clash

A major geopolitical dispute has erupted at the Pacific Islands Forum after Taiwan appeared at the summit’s opening ceremony in Palau. China’s Pacific envoy Qian Bo warned there would be “consequences”, after raising what he called serious concerns with Palau and forum officials. Beijing considers Taiwan part of its territory, while Taiwan maintains it is sovereign. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has refused to directly accuse China of bullying Palau, instead insisting that the Pacific Islands Forum — not outside powers — decides what happens at the gathering. Palau’s president also delivered a pointed message about outside influence. With tensions rising, will Pacific nations be pressured to choose sides?

One Nation’s Rise Is Sending A Warning To Albanese

A growing bloc of frustrated Australian voters is creating a serious political headache for Anthony Albanese’s Labor, according to population researcher Bob Birrell. The warning comes after One Nation captured the traditionally safe Labor seat of Secret Harbour in Western Australia. Birrell argues that concerns over migration, housing affordability, jobs and the cost of living have activated voters who previously felt ignored by the major parties. His research suggests as many as 50 to 60 per cent of voters could fit his “patriot” category. With migration firmly back on the political agenda, Birrell says the conditions are now in place for One Nation to grow further. Could Labor be facing a much bigger revolt?

JOYCE VS ALBANESE: THE WAR OF WORDS BETWEEN LABOR AND ONE NATION JUST ESCALATED

Anthony Albanese has called One Nation “dangerous” and a “threat to our country”. Barnaby Joyce has now fired back, saying he simply does not take the Prime Minister seriously anymore. In a brutal interview, Joyce questioned why Labor does not have any actual labourers on its frontbench and accused its members of being former union students with a “chip on their shoulder”. He also blamed Labor for what he described as socialism and a trillion dollars in debt. Pauline Hanson has separately accused Albanese of crossing a line with his rhetoric. With both sides refusing to back down, the confrontation is becoming harder to ignore. Where does this political battle go next?

ONE NATION WANTS TO TEAR UP VICTORIA’S ENERGY PLAN — AND KEEP LOY YANG OPEN

Pauline Hanson has unveiled an energy policy promising Victorians something many households desperately want: cheaper power. Standing beside the Loy Yang power station, Hanson and Victorian leader Warren Pickering attacked net zero policies, arguing they are driving up costs and damaging farming, manufacturing and small business. One Nation says it would abolish net zero subsidies and focus heavily on coal and natural gas instead. The party also wants to stop Loy Yang from closing in 2035 and repeal Victoria’s nuclear prohibition law. The proposal would represent a major shift in the state’s energy direction. But can coal and gas really deliver the cheaper electricity One Nation is promising?
