MILLIONS ARE GETTING MORE SUPPORT — BUT ANOTHER FINANCIAL BATTLE IS LOOMING
A major change is arriving in September, creating a complicated picture for Australians relying on income support. Payments are increasing for millions, with pensions, JobSeeker and parenting payments receiving boosts from September 20. But inflation has come in worse than expected, intensifying concerns about another interest rate rise. The government is also tightening how income from savings, investments, stocks and other assets is assessed. Deeming rates will rise from 1.25 per cent to 1.75 per cent on assets below set thresholds, while higher assets are assessed at 3.75 per cent.
