MILITARY SUPERVISORS AND CARETAKERS BUILDING UPGRADE

Condemned weatherboards replaced and a temporary decoration with the old painting scheme. Well done PWS and FOBIQS .

Mystery: Has this entire wall been reclad after 1915 ?, and if so, why is it fixed to the studs with steel wood screws ( that rust!) and not nailed?

The site has a few mystery questions unanswered …

Scary signs and Paint !

Some of the original Quarantine Signs appear to have been hand painted.

The skull and bones sign disappeared years ago, however we are in discussions with talented artist, Nigel, to do a reproduction from the only photo we have … unless you know where the original is ??

Painting also moves along on the Cleansing Room and the stripping of old acrylic paint from the 1885 bricks is progressing well ( photos next time )

Acrylic paint on old convict type bricks can stop the bricks “ breathing “ and cause the brick to soften and degrade .

Many thanks to Parks Heritage experts and Channel painting for work ( and advice)

Another big working bee wound up !!!
Many thanks to PWS for their support
150+ hours of FOBIQS Vollie time and the Cleansing Room is 90 % completed external recondition

A few ragwort found as an aside …. that we are dealing with … possibly near a very old habitation site deep on the peninsula .

Plus a bit of bling for our donation terminal to lift its grey attire .

Many thanks to PWS, FOBIQS, generous suppliers ( timber , paint, advice), the weather, weeders and QS caretakers

Merry Christmas to all our supporters inside Parks Tasmania and outside. Our caretakers continue to greet and inform interested visitors and keep our site looking neat and beautiful. Our volunteers ( FOBIQS) have weeded and toiled to continually improve our heritage and natural values.
Thankyou to you all… and to Mark and Justin for exercising their fine bricklaying and rendering skills last week ….
(PS… our January Wildcare working bees are now opening for registrations !)
