MILITARY SUPPLY STORE

Huge thanks to our skilled local Parks staff.
Ingenious bespoke cabinetry scaffolding was built to help carefully disassemble the heritage cabinets.
Ugly support struts have been removed and now to plan for renovation, reinstalling and interpretation.

Wonderful news: Another major project is underway.

The Military Supply Store also known as "The Pharmacy", also known as a music practise room and a craft storage room and a current events display area and ... containing a new mystery of the Resistor Colour Code markings?? ... is .....

We digress...
...is about to start its major 111 year internal facelift ( the external facelift happened last year!)
Thankyou to experts in Parks Tasmania for tackling the complex task of dismantling ( and conserving and reinstating) the stunning internal floor to ceiling security cabinets with an expectation for some significant restoration work on flooring ( there is no flooring under them .... 1915 timber has rotted into Bruny soil!) and the cabinet lower carcases themselves are damaged.

Today all old memorabilia was documented and stored securely.

Now ...why would a resistor colour code be scribed on the window sill????? ( Good spotting by our eagle eyed caretaker ...Rob)

Professionals have removed as much difficult acrylic paint as possible to let the bricks “ breathe”
Some old paint is really welded on !

We await an analysis of our next moves BUT she looks quite refreshed already ( and a few inside pics of course )

Another significant project 99% finished.

Cleansing Room facelift .

Many thanks to Bruny amd central Parks staff, generous suppliers to FOBiQS ( Torenius and Watsons timber merchants, Haymes Paints), consultants ( Channel Painting) and skilled , determined volunteers who invested over 200 hours in preparation to allow Richard and Andy to apply the last few milliltres of bespoke QS white today to our 141 year old heritage listed windows.

Condemned weatherboards replaced and a temporary decoration with the old painting scheme. Well done PWS and FOBIQS .

Mystery: Has this entire wall been reclad after 1915 ?, and if so, why is it fixed to the studs with steel wood screws ( that rust!) and not nailed?

The site has a few mystery questions unanswered …

Scary signs and Paint !

Some of the original Quarantine Signs appear to have been hand painted.

The skull and bones sign disappeared years ago, however we are in discussions with talented artist, Nigel, to do a reproduction from the only photo we have … unless you know where the original is ??

Painting also moves along on the Cleansing Room and the stripping of old acrylic paint from the 1885 bricks is progressing well ( photos next time )

Acrylic paint on old convict type bricks can stop the bricks “ breathing “ and cause the brick to soften and degrade .

Many thanks to Parks Heritage experts and Channel painting for work ( and advice)
