- Nimbin Artists Gallery is pleased to present Marty de Weerd, our Feature Artist for September and October. Marty is a Nimbin–based visual artist working primarily in acrylic paints, with a focus on landscape, native fauna and atmospheric abstraction. His practice explores the shifting relationship between structure and spontaneity, capturing transient light, depth, and mood through layered mark-making.

Primarily drawing inspiration from the Australian landscape, his work balances observation with interpretation, often reducing complex scenes into distilled compositions that emphasise space and feeling while creating the illusion of detail.
Alongside his home studio practice, Marty works out of Flourish Art in South Lismore, where he teaches acrylic painting workshops. His work has been recognised through local awards and exhibitions, and he continues to build a growing presence within the regional arts community.

Through his practice, Marty is committed to creating work that is considered, accessible, and grounded in a strong visual language. Largely self-taught, Marty has developed a distinctive style that demonstrates a command of compositional principles and colour theory, transcending his choice of subject which has shifted increasingly towards the figurative and themes of spiritual connection to nature.
The works presented at the Nimbin Artist Gallery through September and October showcase Marty’s smaller studies of landscapes and native birds with a large focus on waterways, seascapes at sunset and sunrise, as well as his new series of abstracts inspired by the ancient Gondwana rainforest. w

LAST WEEK! - Gathered from Life - Feature artist Linda Frylink Anderson - Nimbin Artists Gallery. GATHERED FROM LIFE
For Northern NSW artist Linda Frylink Anderson, art begins with observation and unfolds through intuition. Her work is an immediate response to the world around her, embracing experimentation, spontaneity and discovery.

Through expressive mark-making, scribbled lines, vibrant colour and layered textures, Linda allows each piece to evolve organically. Guided by the unexpected and the incidental surprises that emerge during the creative process, she works with a sense of freedom that knows no boundaries. Whether at home, travelling or sketching on location, the world itself becomes her studio.

Working in acrylic, ink and watercolour, this exhibition brings together a collection of works created on Bundjalung Country. Featured are views of Wollumbin and the surrounding bushland from her home, a series of life drawings, and a pique assiette mosaic titled Forest Treasures. Created from broken china, stained glass, mirror, jewellery and whimsical found objects, the mosaic celebrates the beauty that can emerge from reclaimed and cherished fragments.

Linda is also the author and illustrator of two books documenting her voyage around the world by sailing boat with her captain. (Titled Sailing in my Sarong & Salvage in my Sarong) Filled with stories, sketches and colour, the books reflect the same spirit of curiosity and adventure that characterises her visual art.

After studying at the Canberra School of Art, Linda’s creative journey took a winding path through travel, motherhood and teaching before she devoted herself fully to her art practice in Northern NSW. She has exhibited in Queensland and overseas, and in recent years has shown her work in community and regional galleries throughout Northern NSW.

Linda’s work invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and discover the beauty, humour and wonder found in everyday moments.
