"Did you know Hollywood Quarter has its very own artist-in-residence? 🎨✨
After years living and working in New York City, artist David Art Wales returned to Sydney and found a home right here at HQ even living inside the for a time. If you’ve wandered through the precinct, chances are you’ve already seen his work splashed across the walls of Foster Street and beyond.
Now, as part of HQ After Hours during Vivid Sydney, David is launching HOLEYWOOD - a new micro-gallery hidden inside the former smokers’ lounge of the Hollywood.
Part gallery, part studio and part social experiment, the tiny space will open with It’s the Little Things, an exhibition co-curated with Stephen Ormandy featuring works by Blak Douglas, John Safran, Ken Done and emerging artists.

A gallery in a pub? Yes, very Hollywood Quarter."

Congratulations to Liam Nunan on being a finalist in the 2026 Archibald Prize!
'The Cost of Flowers', portrait of Sheridan Harbridge
Oil on canvas
78 × 88cm

"Painting from life, I was lucky enough to have Sheridan sit for four sessions. The first was largely taken up by my ill-conceived attempt to drape her in theatre curtains - an idea that felt forced and eventually fell away.
She returned a few days later, the morning after performing a Kylie Minogue medley at an STC Gala and reaping the benafits of an open bar. It seemed even sitting was going to be a bit much to ask.
The painting became a nod to one of Sheridan’s favourite works, ‘Decadent Young Woman. After the Dance’ (1899) by Ramon Casas i Carbó. Where Casas depicts the languid aftermath of indulgence from the perspective of a patron, this work turns to the performer.
An acting teacher Sheridan and I shared often spoke about the ‘cost’ of performing - not just the toll of living a creative and unorthodox life, but the idea that every time you step onto a stage, it must cost you something.
The slightly wilted flowers I had in my sunroom were placed there on our third session just to fill the space but came to echo the ‘cost’ of that moment of bloom.
You can see Sheridan bloom on stage as Chrissy Amphlet in ‘Amplified’ touring right now, ‘Prima Facie’ touring May and June and hear her words in ‘My Brilliant Career’ at Sydney Theatre Company right now."

Ariel Ruby Solo Exhibition "Very Hungry Gods"
Opening 16 April 6-8PM

"Altars, altars everywhere.

A small table outside a shopfront in Taiwan, set each morning with a bowl of fruit, a glass of tea, and burning incense. Altarini hiding on a narrow street in Naples, dripping with plastic flowers, motifs, photographs and the oddly comforting glow of an LED candle. These are not grand gestures. They are daily ones.

Very Hungry Gods grows from years of sustained attention to devotional life in ordinary places, spanning two residencies in Taiwan, a visit to her grandmother‘s hometown in southern Italy, and a practice grounded in the belief that the most significant research happens not in the studio but in the street, the temple, the kitchen, and every unremarkable corner.

The apple and the lotus are among the oldest devotional symbols in the world. Here, they simply find themselves on the same table. The fake flower and the real one. The light left burning for another realm.

The gods are hungry. Let your cup runneth over.”

Huge congrats to 🎉🥂 on the completion of her Bachelor's of Fine Arts at the National Art School .
We've enjoyed seeing the development of Sally's work through the years. Such a joy to see a beautiful person kicking life goals (while juggling a family and diy house renovations).
The NAS BFA is not for the light-hearted, it demands all of you.
Sally has shown she has much to give while also challenging herself creatively with new questions and concerns.
Well done Sally from all of us at the studios 💚

Loving this new mural by
This L-shaped mural was painted for the year 6 graduates of 2025 at Gundagai Public School. The mural features iconic Aussie animals and flowers on one side, and a celebration of local culture and school pride on the other.

Great new mural by 💚🌿

"You can only imagine what type of pleasant person would live here looking at that type of artwork on the side of their house. Thanks to this recent client who hired my services to design and paint a nature inspired mural. It’s based on the South Coast local bush-land areas to Kanahooka NSW. We discussed some of his professional work in advising ecology to big industry which is as beautiful as industry employing or purchasing from artists in my opinion."
