Memories of DERMPAVโs First Long-Distance Tour. 5th & 6th November 2011.
Ken Coram our most unofficial, official photographer sent along some photos of our first overnight tour and our first long distance tour DERMPAV organised. This tour took us to Swan Hill staying there overnight then out to Piangil the next day. By this time, we had organised the Welcome Back Tour to Pakenham and Bacchus Marsh, then ran a few tours before embarking on our tour to Piangil. Sharprail thought it was now time for something with a bit of distance in it and an overnight stay.
Ken was there on the Welcome Back tour as a rail enthusiast taking photos and joined all our other tours in that capacity. It seemed natural he would become involved with our group and fell into our railmotor operations as a car officer. Now he was riding on the DERM entertaining our passengers making sure they were well looked after, Ken does an excellent job. Even though he was riding with us he still always took loads of photos, which have been posted here on these pages.
If you are interested in joining our small band of enthusiasts and becoming involved we would love to hear from you, please contact us at [email protected] This enquiry will be passed on to me through our webmaster and I will respond to you. I must extend our apologies, four people requested membership information at the 2026 Steamrail Open Day, however their contact details were misplaced. We would love to hear from them again.
Like all our heritage tours the first overnight tour was operated by V/Line they provided Bill Webb and Colin Sharp as drivers with a separate conductor on the Saturday and Sunday. Mark Findlay was our pilotman for the tracks Bill and Colin did not normally operate over.
The trip was a success and that of course is attributable to our passengers who come along paying the ticket price to make the tour financially viable. We extend our thanks to you all. Also to everyone in V/line that made it possible and our members who continue working on our projects at our depot in the Newport Rail Heritage Depot.
Here are a few photos to serve a s a memory of that tour. Thanks Ken! Keep up the great work.
