πŸš‚ HELP US PRESERVE A PIECE OF HISTORY πŸš‚

Derwent Valley Railway is currently looking for small older or heritage-style buildings that may be suitable for restoration, preservation, or future Railway use.

We are interested in:
β€’ Old railway huts or station buildings
β€’ Timber cottages or farm buildings
β€’ Small storage sheds or depots
β€’ Relocatable heritage-style structures

These buildings could potentially be restored and used for volunteer facilities, displays, storage, visitor spaces, or future heritage railway projects along the corridor.

If you know of a building that may be available β€” or one at risk of demolition β€” we would love to hear from you.

By working together, we can help preserve more of Tasmania’s history for future generations. ❀️

Please send us a message or email the Railway with any information or leads.

Happy National Volunteer Week to all of the amazing volunteers who keep our communities, organisations, and heritage alive. ❀️

From track work, maintenance, operations, administration, events, restoration, catering, and behind-the-scenes support β€” every contribution matters.
Volunteers are the heart of community organisations, and without them many great projects simply would not happen.
Thank you to everyone who continues to show up, lend a hand, and believe in what we are building together.

πŸš‚ Wednesday at Derwent Valley Railway πŸš‚

Another big day of progress behind the scenes at DVR, with volunteers continuing work to preserve and revitalise Tasmania’s railway heritage.

From track maintenance and station projects through to planning for future operations, every hour volunteered helps keep the railway moving forward.

We would like to thank every volunteer, supporter, member, and local community member who continues to stand beside us during this important chapter for the railway.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but step by step we are building something the whole community can be proud of.

Interested in getting involved? We are always looking for volunteers across operations, restoration, maintenance, administration, and events.

Derwent Valley Railway

13/05/2026

As the Derwent Valley Railway begins work along the newly leased Boyer corridor, we would also like to acknowledge the many residents and property owners who back onto the railway line.

We understand the railway forms part of your local environment and community, and we are committed to working respectfully and cooperatively with our neighbours as maintenance and restoration activities progress.

Where practical, the Derwent Valley Railway will aim to provide advance notice of vegetation management, maintenance works, or activities occurring along the corridor adjoining residential areas.

If anyone living alongside the corridor has questions, concerns, historical information, or would simply like to discuss the project, we encourage you to contact the Derwent Valley Railway via [email protected]. Open communication with our community is important to us as we move forward.

This project is about preserving an important piece of Tasmanian railway history for future generations β€” and community support plays a huge role in that journey. πŸš‚

Thank you to everyone who has already shown encouragement and support for the future of the Boyer Line.
