We are delighted to announce our next exhibition opens this Tuesday 24th February and runs until 7th March.

The group show ‘Between Us’ official opening event will take place on Saturday 28th February at 5:30pm and there will also be an artist talk in the Gallery on Saturday 7th March at 1:30pm.

Between Us is a group exhibition of contemporary visual artists whose practices engage with memory, land, spirit, and embodied ways of knowing. Working across painting, drawing, installation, sculpture, and ceramics, the exhibition reflects on ancestries, environments, energies, and stories that continue to exist despite erasure or change.
Between Us speaks to connection. Connection between people, between the body and the land, and between past and present. The works come together through shared ways of making and knowing, creating a space where stories, memories, and experiences sit alongside one another and are felt collectively.

THE FLOOR IS LAVA, an exhibition by Pippa Makgill ( ) from 10- 21 February at The Old Ambulance Station Gallery,Nambour.

Opening event 14th February 5:30pm

Pippa Makgill makes formally inquisitive work, marked by its use of simple materials imbued with loaded meanings. She morphs the familiar with a tweaked intention, allowing sculptural gestures to slide off their hinges into painterly formalism. Her practice plays on our tendency to make meaning between things that resemble one another, swinging from seriousness to abject humour with a space-consuming presence.

Makgill’s approach has a clear drive to capture spontaneity and presence, intent on finding threads of sensibility woven through the chaos. In the exhibition ‘The floor is lava’, gravity becomes a co-conspirator: materials are suspended, balanced, and teetering, echoing the precarity and energy of play. This site-responsive work draws out the hidden character of the Old Ambulance Station, with a quiet nod to its culturally significant history and role on the Sunshine Coast.

IMAGE OF THE TOWER
A new year brings a new fantasy.

During their Takeover this self driven cinematic machine will be set in motion with story, image and process unfolding in real time.
Diring the Takeover will open their occult film practices to the public. The residency will explore hands-on visual effects and analog filmmaking techniques including the fabrication of props and set pieces alongside experiments in rear projection and in camera composition.
Audiences and participants can expect to be pulled kicking and screaming into the mechanics of visual effects and storytelling through workshops and collective making, the community will be invited to step inside their world and experience the thrill, labour and imagination at the heart of independent filmmaking.

We are delighted to announce Andie Dittman as our TAKEOVER 2026 Artist in residence in the Ramp Space from 14 March until 11 April.

FEEDING THE FAMILY
Emerging documentarian Angie Dittman returns home to the Sunshine Coast to explore food and gardening practices that sustain the region.
Inspired by her travels the artist will turn her lens towards stories of nurture and nourishment, capturing the people, places and plates that feed the local community.
Throughout her residency Andie will travel the backyards of local residents, photographing what they grow, cook and share.
These photographs will be displayed alongside found materials collected along the way, grounding the work in the textures of everyday exchange.

Community participation forms a key part of the project. Visitors will be invited to contribute a family recipe or food memory to a recipe-sharing wall within the space, using simple prompts and materials. Over the course of the Takeover, this growing collection will become an evolving archive of local knowledge, memory, and care, with contributions displayed publicly for others to read and reflect on. Through this shared process, Feeding the Family transforms the space into a site of exchange, connecting global travel with local stories and inviting audiences to see their own experiences reflected within the work.

We are delighted to announce Laura Griffiths - Yamamoto as our TAKEOVER 2026 Artist in residence in the Little Ambo Gallery from 14 March until 11 April.

THIS IS WHERE : FORMS THE REMEMBER
Working with textiles, performance, and process, the project will explore skeuomorphism - the way design details from the past continue to appear in
everyday objects long after their original function has changed.
Drawing inspiration from the Old Ambo’s architectural details, materials, and history, alongside familiar undergarment design, the artist will hand-make and rework white cotton garments using stitched seams,
bindings, and surface details that echo both the former ambulance station and domestic life.
Throughout the residency, the public will be able to observe the making process as the installation gradually grows and transforms. In
The community will be invited to participate in a hands-on workshop exploring skeuomorphic design in everyday life, encouraging shared reflection on memory, care, and the objects that shape our daily experiences.
This residency will activate the Little Ambo as a space of making, storytelling, and connection -
where past function, personal history, and contemporary creative practice sit side by side.
