I finally visited the latest & amazing exhibition at Tweed Regional Museum called The Wiiyaan! 😍

“The Wiiyaan, are an unbroken line of origin, the Ancestors of the Tweed Bundjalung. The Three Brothers is a creation story that explains the origins of the Bundjalung Nation’s different tribes and their dialects. It tells of three brothers who came across the sea in a canoe to settle in the region. In the southern dialect, their names are Mamoon, Birrung, and Yar-Birrain. In the northern dialect, they are known as Yarbiri, Marming, and Birin. After arriving with their families, they separated and headed north, west, and south, which led to their descendants forming distinct tribes and their languages evolving into different dialects. The story is a foundational part of Bundjalung culture and history, and its key locations marked by natural landmarks throughout the Northern Rivers.” - 🪃

🚐✨ The Museum is hitting the road! ✨🚐

This week the MoW (Museum on Wheels), a vintage caravan packed with real objects, hands-on exhibits and immersive storytelling rolled out of Murwillumbah on a five‑week journey to some of the most remote classrooms in northern NSW.

Connected: Signal to the Stars, part of Tweed Regional Museum’s Museum on Wheels program, officially launched this morning at Woodenbong Central School — the first stop on a tour visiting more than 20 small and under‑served schools, from Woodenbong to Toomelah.

Inside the caravan, students explore the history of communication — from early signalling and postal systems to the digital age — through interactive displays designed especially for primary school learners. For some schools, with just four or five students, the Museum has even arranged travel so no child misses out.

We are so proud of our team and our educators Nat and Paul Barrett, seeing this project come to realisation!

💡 Proudly funded through a $96,000 Cultural Access Grant
✅ No cost to ratepayers
🌏 Big ideas, small schools, long roads — and a whole lot of curiosity

On this Anzac Day, we recognise the bravery and sacrifice of the Waler horses who served alongside Australian soldiers during World War One.

Henry (Harry) Rupert Salmon, of Uki, enlisted in 1915 and served with the 12th Light Horse in Egypt and the Middle East.

Like thousands of Light Horsemen, Harry relied on the strength and endurance of Australian Walers, hardy horses built to survive the harsh desert conditions. Sadly, like most Walers, Harry’s horse Sardines did not return home after the War.

Purple poppies displayed on Anzac Day honour the animals who served in wartime, including horses like Sardines. Knitted purple blooms can be found among the poppies on Murwillumbah bridge. 💜🐎

We Will Remember Them. Lest we forget. 🕊️

📸 Photos are of Harry Salmon and his horse Sardines.

ANZAC Day Closure: The Museum will be closed from 25 April and will re-open Tuesday 28 April at 10am.
