As entries start to flow in over the next few weeks let's introduce you to some of the established and loyal artists as well as new and immerging artists entering this years Rotary Art Show. We'll also have a look at the style of art they specialize in.
The first of the artists is Nathan Modra his 3D art works are unique and exciting............Let's meet him.
Nathan Modra
A young Rockleigh farmer, Nathan Modra commenced a welding course through TAFE in the belief that it would be a useful skill on the farm. He had been interested in drawing from a young age and realized that this interest could be expressed in sculptured works as his welding learning advanced.
For more than ten years Nathan has been sculpting pieces with his welder. He first entered an art show in 2017 participating in the Youth Art Show. One of his larger works is at the entrance of the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery. Sales and a few awards have encouraged him to develop his skills.
He has showcased his art at various venues; however, he especially appreciates the Regional Gallery's ability to display his works effectively. Nathan is currently preparing new works for the Rotary Art Show at the Regional Gallery opening around Anzac Day.
One of the challenges Nathan faces is a supply of recycled metal, often quite small to create his sculptures. Initially the farm was a reasonable source of material, but this has now been depleted as pieces are created. Nuts, bolts and assorted discarded iron items have a chance of a new life. Friends are often on the lookout to help supply while auctions and clearing sales are given scrutiny.
As he looks ahead Nathan realizes that he may have to purchase some material if he is to produce work for possible outdoor presentations and remain free of rust.
Entries close around the 10th April, the exhibition opens on the 26th April with the opportunity to view and even purchase unique artworks.
