A wee bit late for posting this - but I do think that Anzac Day in Murphys Creek is important. We may have been a sparsely populated area during WW1 and WW11 but the families of those times certainly sent their share of young men to serve their country!
It is always heartening to see the current residents of the area, remembering and honouring their predecessors.
This was the first year we have had a dawn ceremony - the photos are from the 10 a.m. ceremony: so at least half the normal attendees were keen enough to get up at 4 a.m. and go for breakfast!

Easter is always a family time - Happy Easter to everyone - especially if you are unable to connect because of the fuel problems!!
We can only hope that the present troubles are over sooner rather than later!!
The cottage is closed for Easter but will be open next weekend as normal (just in case!).
Don't forget - we do sell handmade cards at the cottage $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00!!

A few times a year we change what we have on display, as we have had so many interesting items left with us over the years.

At present we have some of our baby and child cots on show.

The two featured in this post were donated to us before we were a museum, and the generous donors did not leave their name or the family they were used by.

If you recognise either could you please come to the cottage or contact us somehow and give the story on these items? We would love to have a story on the cots.

Just adding a little more postage information to the story and photo from the Murphys Creek Tavern about the much appreciated Tuesday morning postal van.
We also have a post box situated on the grass verge outside the tavern.
Thank you to the post office for their thoughtfulness from the residents of Murphys Creek!

The volunteers at Jessie's Cottage hope you are all having a wonderful (although VERY hot) Australia Day.

We will re-opening the cottage for visitors on Saturday 7th February at 10 a.m. (until 12.00 m.d) and on Sunday 8th 10.30 a.m. to2.00 p.m.

Congratulations to all the recipients of Australia Day Awards in the valley - all well deserved for all your hard work over the years.

This year we are hoping to recruit more volunteers for the cottage - this will mean that we can lighten the load for all our volunteers - which means less pressure and more pleasure and enjoyment in what we do and provide to our visitors!

See you soon!

Happy New Year to all our 'friends' and readers!
We hope that this year is way better for us all than the last one!

Our volunteers look forward to welcoming you to our little museum during 2026 to see what we are doing.

It would be very helpful, if there are any family history enthusiasts out there, and living reasonably locally, would think about helping us with cataloguing and compiling the wonderful amount of family histories and stories we have in our files.

We open again the first Saturday in February. 10.00 am - 12md.
Sunday we open 10.30 am to 2.00 pm.

All the best for 2026!

Hi to all our readers, and also to anyone who may be travelling out Murphys Creek way over the summer break - the cottage will be closed from 10th December until first weekend in February.
During this this time we will be changing the "front" display room: but we will retain the family stories, maps etc in the smaller room.
With all the rain we have been having around here, our regular orange bush has gifted us with its usual brilliance. Thank you to anyone who reminds me of its name!!
Have a nice Christmas break.

Well, here we are at Christmas again!
This year we were honoured to have most of our previous Presidents here to help us celebrate our end of year get together!
We also thanked our long-time member Vi Hanlon with a Life membership, to thank her for her many years of annual fundraising for the Neighbourhood Centre and Jessie's Cottage Museum, and in memorium, her late husband Ted Hanlon.
Happy Christmas to all able to attend today.
We look forward to welcoming more local new members next year - to help with visitors and continuing our work to compile more stories of our past

September/October have been very busy for the volunteers at the cottage.
We have welcomed and chatted to a good number of interested visitors about the early Family's of Murphys Creek.
Thank you to those who donated at the cottage or bought raffle tickets at the Pig Races - all funds go to helping with the expenses of keeping the museum open for our visitors.
