A big thank you to the Rural Fire Brigade volunteers who give up their time to fight for the safety of local communities!!
We have had an ongoing fire at the back of Murphys Creek for two days now, (see the Murphys Creek Rural Fire brigade Fb page) -with 2 tanker helicopters and a spotter copter flying pretty much constantly during daylight hours.
Goodness knows, there has to be crews out watching the fire at night as well!
I have dropped a short video of the copters taking in water on the MC grounds. A longer, better edited one will follow!

We were open for the Chilli Festival last Sunday, as usual there were a good number of people willing to test out their tonsils on the really 'hot stuff'.
It is always a pleasure to see visitors in Murphys Creek, and to greet visitors to the cottage.
Amazing, when you realise that this event has been bringing visitors to our area for 11 years!

In the accompanying photo there is over 450 years of experience! And quite frankly we are all getting a bit short on energy!
We desperately need other members of the Murphys Creek Community to join us at the Cottage to carry on the work we have started!
If this does not happen within the next few months I am sure that Jessie's Cottage and the museum will close, due to our unavailability!
All the generous donors need not be concerned for their donations - all contributions will go to the next closest museum to Murphys Creek or if the information is unique to us, it will go to into the Qld Museum archives, as recorded in our constitution.
Please either contact us at the cottage on a Saturday 10 am - 12 md., or Sunday 10.30 am - 1.30 pm.

While I have been unable to contribute to our posts, our Grass Tree has been busy!
When I returned to the cottage, low and behold there are TWO spikes on the bush! I had to take a photo for you all.
Over two weeks, the spikes have been developing the small flowers that attract insects and bees - as well as birds!
What a sight to welcome me back!

A wee bit late for posting this - but I do think that Anzac Day in Murphys Creek is important. We may have been a sparsely populated area during WW1 and WW11 but the families of those times certainly sent their share of young men to serve their country!
It is always heartening to see the current residents of the area, remembering and honouring their predecessors.
This was the first year we have had a dawn ceremony - the photos are from the 10 a.m. ceremony: so at least half the normal attendees were keen enough to get up at 4 a.m. and go for breakfast!

Easter is always a family time - Happy Easter to everyone - especially if you are unable to connect because of the fuel problems!!
We can only hope that the present troubles are over sooner rather than later!!
The cottage is closed for Easter but will be open next weekend as normal (just in case!).
Don't forget - we do sell handmade cards at the cottage $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00!!
