A true pioneer

Henry Allan Meyer was posthumously inducted into the Citrus Australia Hall of Fame in March, recognising a lifetime of service to the Australian citrus industry.

Henry Allan Meyer OAM (1935–2025) was a third-generation orchardist from Mundubbera whose involvement in the industry began at an early age, helping plant 250 trees on the family farm at just 10 years old. Over time, the orchard expanded to approximately 27,000 trees, reflecting a lifelong commitment to production and improvement.

His leadership journey began in 1957 when he attended his first Mundubbera Citrus Growers Association meeting, later serving as President for 23 years. He also held key industry roles, including Chairman of the Queensland Citrus Sectional Group for 15 years and President of the Citrus Growers Federation of Australia from 1990–91.

During a period when industry representation was coordinated through the Committee of Direction of Fruit Marketing (COD), the precursor to QFVG, Henry played an active role within the sectional group structure that helped guide policy and represent grower interests across Queensland and nationally.

Known for his practical innovation, Henry engineered much of his own orchard and packing equipment and supported major industry transitions in packaging, postharvest handling, and export development, including opening access for Australian navel oranges into the United States.

Awarded an OAM in 2004, he retired in 2006, leaving a lasting legacy of leadership and contribution to the citrus industry.

Join us in observing a minute's silence at 11am today for Remembrance Day.

It marks 107 years since the end of World War I in 1918.

We commemorate those who gave their lives in service to our nation. We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

Orchids are back in pots but look a bit chewed on. They might need a trim and a fertiliser boost now.

We were so pleased with our efficient lawnmowers. The grounds are looking good.
Unfortunately their bush house raid yesterday has them in our bad books.
A couple of cactus survived and I may be able to retrieve some chewed orchids and ferns that have roots remaining.
Repotting or new plants are this week’s new project.
The gate fixings have been reinforced!

We have received an enquiry regarding CBA bank manager’s residence in the early 1950s. The son recalls living in a 3 verandah Queenslander so it was definitely not the brick bank residence at rear.
The manager
was Mr Atwell.
