Coming up at BAMM are contemporary photographic exhibitions, ‘Skatepark: Trace and Culture’ by Dan Johnston, and ‘The Desert Line’ and ‘Temporality’ by Enrico Scotece.

‘Skateparks: Trace and Culture’ by Dan Johnston draws on a photographic study of 136 skateparks across Australia and overseas, documenting the visual traces left by the communities who use them. Through these traces, Johnston reveals a shared global language of creativity, identity and defiance, reframing skateparks as vital cultural spaces that foster connection, belonging and wellbeing.

Working with analogue photography and experimental processes, in ‘The Desert Line’ and ‘Temporality’, Enrico Scotece explores landscape, time and perception across the regional and remote territories of inland Australia. Through large-format and handmade pinhole cameras, his photographs trace encounters with place and the passage of time, revealing landscapes that are at once observed, experienced and unknowable.

It’s the final week of the BAMM Regional Art Fair, an exhibition that celebrates the creativity of artists from across New South Wales with a connection to the regions.

‘The Archibald Prize 2026’ is coming to BAMM and so is the Young Archie competition!

Budding artists between the ages of 5 and 18 are invited to submit an A3 (vertical or horizontal) portrait for the Young Archie competition, as part of our family-focused activities for the ‘Archibald Prize 2026’ regional tour. The portrait should be of a person who is special to you – someone who is known to you and plays a significant role in your life.

There are four age categories:
· 5–8-year-olds
· 9–12-year-olds
· 13–15-year-olds
· 16–18-year-olds

We prefer that the portrait is ‘painted from life’ and that your subject has a sitting for their portrait. You may also create the portrait from memory or take your own photograph to use for reference.

The competition will be judged by a panel, based on merit and originality.
The finalists from each category will be exhibited at the Gallery and on the Gallery website. One winner will be chosen in each category. Each winner will receive prizes provided by AGNSW.

Entries must be received by Friday 30 October 2026. Finalists will be on display on Thursday 12 November 2026 and winners will be announced on Friday 13th November 2026.

Currently on exhibition at BAMM are several artworks by the Euraba Paper Company as part of the BAMM Regional Art Fair, which celebrates the exceptional talent of artists from across New South Wales with a connection to the regions.

Renowned for their handmade paper works, the Aboriginal-founded and -led Euraba artists and papermakers transform natural fibres and locally gathered materials into artworks that carry stories of Country, continuity and lived experience.

All works are handmade cotton rag pulp paper paintings, available for purchase at $3200 each.

Until 10 October, BAMM continues to exhibit our BAMM Regional Art Fair, which celebrates the exceptional talent of artists from across New South Wales with a connection to the regions.

In an upstairs gallery are ‘We Are Drawings’, featuring collaborative and solo drawings by Northern Rivers, NSW, artists Claudie Frock and René Bolten. Working with both conventional art materials and botanical inks and charcoals handmade by Frock from sustainably sourced, grown, gifted and foraged plants, lichens and reclaimed waste-stream materials, the exhibition reflects an ongoing dialogue between material, place and process.

BAMM is currently exhibiting works as part of the BAMM Regional Art Fair, which celebrates the exceptional talent of artists from across New South Wales with a connection to the regions.

In one of the upstairs galleries is a collection of bowls, weavings, baskets, wall hangings and more, handmade by Gomeroi artists Anna Duncan and Tibby Duncan of Maramali Weaving and Ceramics.
