Blue Temper Ironworks

Blue Temper Ironworks Blue Temper Ironworks create handmade furniture, sculpture, gates, wall art, outdoor fires, and acces Blue Temper Ironworks was founded by Chris Murphy in 1997.

After completing a blacksmithing course, and with a head full of ideas, the Blue Temper workshop was set up at Somerton Park. The distinctive blue workshop stood out on Byre Ave , and the curved steel gates opened to reveal the glow of the coke forge, and the rhythmic sound in of hammer and anvil beating life into hot steel. In 2005 Chris and his wife Tan bought an old cottage on an acre of land a

t Middleton. The blue workshop was rebuilt, in it’s more spacious surroundings, and now the curved steel gates open to reveal a yard of sculptures and fire bowls, and a showroom full of ideas for your home or garden. Over the years Chris has earnt a reputation for creating quality, handmade ironwork that is built to last. Blue Temper has a range of indoor and outdoor ironwork which customers can buy direct from our showroom. Or if it’s custom ironwork you’re after ,you can choose from our designs, or we can work together to design that individual piece that sits perfectly in your surrounds. Whether it’s a piece of furniture for indoors or out, a decorative screen for that bare wall, a gate or security door with a difference, a sculpture or fire to finish off your outdoor entertaining area or anything else you can dream up, we can make that idea a reality. Call Chris on 0439 844 774 to make an appointment to visit the showroom, where we can discuss your ideas and turn them into ironwork that will last lifetimes.

Big thanks to City of Holdfast Bay for purchasing my
"Sunshine Blooms" from the Brighton Jetty Sculptures exhibition.

They will be installed somewhere in the Holdfast Bay Area, and add to their growing collection of public sculptures.

This will be the fourth sculpture of mine that the Holdfast Bay Council has purchased and displayed publicly, along with the Hang Loose at Brighton, Two Fine Lovers at Glenelg North, and Gene the Giraffe on Maxwell Tce!!

The exhibition at Brighton is open until this Sunday the 1st of Feb, so go and enjoy this fantastic event, and don't forget to vote for your favourite sculpture in the peoples choice award.

Kalans "Recycled Rhythm" sculpture has been well Loved on the esplanade at the Brighton Jetty Sculptures.

The sticks have been splintered from all the use, and Kal has made up a new set, to keep the beats going.

Thanks to everyone who is sharing their photos and videos of them interacting with this sculpture, Kal is stoked to see so many people playing it, that's why he created it. Keep them coming.

It is fantastic to see the smiles on peoples faces, young and old, whether they can play drums or not, it doesn't matter, there's a primal joy in beating a drum that we all have within us.

And it is fantastic to see everyone who plays them, returning the drum sticks to their holsters when they are finished, for the next drummer to enjoy, RESPECT!!

And a big shout out to Michael Ward for showing these drums who's boss, you smashed it mate, thanks for the demo!!

The exhibition is open until Sunday the 1st of February, so get down to Brighton and enjoy this amazing event.
And don't forget to vote for your favourite sculpture in the peoples choice award.

Kalan put a lot of time and dedicated work into creating his "Recycled Rhythm" sculpture, during his school holidays, for the Brighton Jetty Sculptures exhibition.

Last night he was awarded the winner of the junior category, and Tan and I are super proud parents!

Congratulations Kal on creating a sculpture that combines your love of music and drumming, building things with your hands, and seeing it through to the finished piece.
And having the courage to share it with everyone through this exhibition.
Your drums are certainly getting a great work out on the foreshore at Brighton, and bringing a lot of joy to those that play them, well done mate. We Love ya xx.

Kal and I had a great day installing down at the Brighton Jetty Sculptures yesterday.

It was great to see people getting behind Kals Recycled Rhythm sculpture, and knocking out some beats. The joy on peoples faces when they are playing these drums, even if they don't know how to play the drums, is fantastic to see. Everybody has their own rhythm!

My Sunshine Blooms really pop with the Brighton sea and skyline as a back drop, and Weevil Knievel looks right at home on the grass in Bindara reserve. As do the small and large Sunflowers that popped up next to the marquee.

The exhibition officially opens at 8am on Wednesday the 21st, and runs through until Sunday the 1st of February.
So get down to Brighton beach and check out over 200 sculptures on display, there really is a lot of amazing sculptures down there to enjoy.

Just in the nic of time, Kal has finished his "Recycled Rhythm" sculpture for the Brighton Jetty Sculptures exhibition!!

He's really put so much thought and effort into all the details of this interactive sculpture, and in the process he's learnt numerous new skills, and really dialled in his welding, grinding and plasma cutting skills.

Kalans sculpture will be judged in the Junior (he's 13) and the environmental category of the exhibition. And all the sculptures that are on display are eligible for the peoples choice award, which you can vote for using the QR codes on the description of each sculpture.

So get down to Brighton beach from this Wednesday the 21st until Sunday the 1st of February, and enjoy the vast collection of sculptures that will be on display along the foreshore and around Bindara Reserve, next to the surf club.

And if you're a drummer, come and play Kal's sculpture, it's really good fun!!

Kal has had a BIG day today working on his "Recycled Rhythm" sculpture, for the Brighton Jetty Sculptures exhibition, which opens next Wednesday the 21st of January.

He's hammered out a cymbal, and a pair of high hats, made stands for his snare and toms, and made an awesome kick pedal, and a cow bell!!

Stay tuned he should have it ready to play by tomorrow!!

I'm super proud of Kalan, he's been very focussed this school holidays, and spent a lot of time up in the workshop creating his sculpture for the Brighton Jetty Sculptures.

The exhibition opens on Wednesday the 21st of January and closes on Sunday the 1st of February, so there is plenty of time to get down to Brighton and check out the sculptures, along the beachfront either side of Brighton Jetty, and in Bindara reserve next to the Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club.

Kalan is creating a Drum Kit from recycled materials, and his sculpture is called "Recycled Rhythm".

He's been welding, drilling holes and tapping threads, plasma cutting, grinding, jig sawing, hammering, and bending hot steel, to create his vision for this interactive sculpture.

The next step for my entry to the Brighton Jetty Sculptures is to roll up a length of steel pipe.

I used to outsource this process, then I invested in the KANG industrial pipe roller, which will handle up to 40NB pipe!!

It's a workout, gets the heart rate up pretty quickly, but I'm stoked I can roll up curved pipe in my own workshop.

I've also added a video of the sound of the steel globe when hit with the hammer. It doesn't sound quite as epic as the Malls Balls, but it's got a certain note to it.

The last photo is all the pieces of this sculpture ready to weld together. Any guesses as to what it might be??

Kalan Murphy has been busy creating a new sculpture for the Brighton Jetty Sculptures exhibition in January.

Kal’s sculpture will qualify for both the junior (he’s 13 years old), and the environmental awards, and he has searched for, and collected many different pieces from in and around my workshop, and Kev’s recycling yard in Port Elliot, to find the recycled materials he needs to create his piece.

He’s been cutting, linishing, welding, grinding and rolling to create an interactive sculpture, which I think is a first for the exhibition!

Have a guess what Kal’s creating from his collection in the first photo?

More will be revealed as it comes together!! ⚒️🔥🤙
