Today we want to take a moment to honour someone truly special. Our dear volunteer, Marty. 💙

Marty brought a lifetime of passion for telecommunications to our museum. That expertise was a genuine gift to our collections team, particularly when consulting on our exchange collections.

But Marty gave us so much more than his knowledge. He was always the first to put his hand up, whether for school programs, opening events, or anything else that needed a willing pair of hands. He was kind, generous, and his family tells us he loved connecting with NCM staff, fellow volunteers and visitors alike.

Beyond NCM, Marty also volunteered with Museums Victoria and Bikes for Humanity, and was passionate about cycling, music and playing guitar.

We were so lucky to know him. Rest easy, Marty. Sending love to his wife Sue and his family. 🌿

Teddy has been sitting with some big questions. Why perform? Who for? For how long?

EJ Son’s Trickless Bear doesn’t dance anymore, it breathes, contemplates and just... is. Maybe you have some questions of your own to sit with.

FRIEND closes 17 May. Just over one week left to visit. 🐻

We're thrilled to be part of Melbourne Design Week 2026 🎉

On Friday 15 May, the National Communication Museum will host a keynote lecture by Professor Shunji Yamanaka, one of Japan's most influential industrial designers, whose work blurs the boundaries between humans and machines through prosthetics, robotics and product design.

Melbourne Design Week is Australia's largest and leading annual design festival, running 14–24 May 2026 with 400+ events, exhibitions, talks and installations throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. As the festival marks its 10th anniversary, we're proud to be a venue for one of the program's headline international voices.
