DIGGINGS, DIGGINGS, DIGGINGS, DIGGINGS, DIGGINGS,

NOVEMBER EDITION of “DIGGINGS”..... our NEWSLETTER …., is now online, on our website, at www.mmhs.net.au It tells the story of the first 60 years of our Maryborough Midlands Historical Society, which now focuses more on the Maryborough and closer District areas.
To acknowledge the major new Hospital Development on the site of the original Maryborough Town Hall on the corner of Clarendon and Neill Streets, the newsletter also contains a large section on staff from our hospital who went to the Great (First) World War.

For all “Diggings” for the past five years, In our website www.mmhs.net.au, go to the Committee section, and scroll down to the edition you need. (An index of the content of these editions is currently being created, but given the range of topics, it will take some time to appear.) tw

OUR SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER "DIGGINGS," is now available for download from our website at: https://mmhs.net.au/committee Articles include:-
-Remembering Maryborough's long running, now extinct Wattle Festival,
-The compulsory removal of the town's over-footpath posted verandahs,
-An explanation of the two very different railway gauges which now run through Maryborough, and determine which trains, now and in the future, can come from and go to where, until eventually, long into the future, Victoria is fully installed with the “Standard Gauge”.
-The history of the memorial windows over the altar at Christ the King Anglican Church, (formerly Church of England) , on Nightingale Hill, Maryborough.
-Now the new Hospital upper stories are accessible, some new views over Maryborough are revealed. Because the Hospital is just to the north of the Fire Brigade Bell Tower, they are an interesting comparison with those taken more than a century before by Dunolly-Majorca- Maryborough’s wonderful William Henry Wong Ying, the man of many ideas and practicalities, whose Motor -Garage building still stands in Alma St. behind Nolan St.
-Some snippets from the Maryborough and Dunolly Advertiser from 1905. Thanks yet again to our Editor/President/Museums Curator/Correspondent with the Landlord, Barb Nielsen. tw
