An exhibition of large mixed-media portraits and recorded interviews, each capturing the authenticity of these remarkable everyday individuals.

We welcome you to join us for the official opening of Capturing the Wild – A series of photographs and paintings by Milton Moss.

The Gallery has had a busy week welcoming visitors (from Melbourne, Bendigo, Ballarat, Castlemaine, interstate and overseas) – on Wednesday the Engine Room was full for the engaging Lecture given by Dr Sophie Couchman about Maryborough's Chinese Communities during the gold rush and later; Yesterday we had members of the Moonambel Art and History Group in for a guided tour; Then VCE students from Maryborough Education Centre came to learn about the many aspects of the Gallery and exhibitions as part of their Art Making and Exhibiting subject curriculum. In addition to all that we had the artists for upcoming exhibitions in ...so stay tuned for more info on their upcoming shows!

Maryborough’s Chinese Communities:
The gold rushes and beyond by Dr Sophie Couchman

Join us for a fascinating exploration of Maryborough’s Chinese communities, from the gold rush era through to today.

Dr Sophie Couchman is a Professional historian and curator who works closely with communities to share their stories. She has extensive experience in Chinese Australian history over many years and has been working with the See Yup Society following the 2024 fire at the See Yup Temple in South Melbourne.

Dr Couchman Brings history to life through exhibitions, walking tours, oral histories and digital storytelling. Her recent work includes the “Chinese Australian Whispers” podcast (2025) and co-authored family history The Old Reliable Firm: Good Workmanship Guaranteed (2025). She is also President of the Professional Historians Association (Victoria & Tasmania) and a founding member of the Chinese Australian Family Historians of Victoria.

Just sharing some grant opportunities available from the Victorian Government & Creative Victoria that may be of interest to local artists or community groups.

Please note: Applications are already open.
Applications close: 3pm, Thursday 16 April 2026 (NEXT WEEK).

The first is for grants of up to $50,000 available to support multicultural festivals and events:

The second is for grants between $10,000 and $30,000, through Creative Victoria, to support new projects or performance works. Creative Projects Fund supports Victorian creatives, collectives and organisations to undertake projects and professional development opportunities:
