What’s Been Happening at the Mareeba Heritage Centre 🌿

July and August were busy months, with plenty of visitors through our doors and another stop on our Take Our Tastebuds Around the World journey! 🇩🇪

Our German-themed night was a huge success, with traditional dancers, a fantastic atmosphere and a delicious German feast prepared by Chef Curtis (CC). A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers and everyone who continues to support these special evenings.

🌺 Next stop: Polynesia! Join us Friday 19 September for Polynesian flavours and traditional dancing. Bookings are essential, so gather your family and friends and reserve your table.

We also said a fond farewell to Flore, our university exchange student from France, after three months with the Heritage Centre. Thank you for everything you brought to the team, Flore, and best of luck with your future adventures! 🇫🇷

🏛️ Our new museum exhibition, Treasures in Collection, is now open, showcasing items of local, state and national significance.

And finally, congratulations to our incredible volunteer gardeners, who took out 1st Prize for Best Commercial Garden in the Lions Club Gardening Competition for the second year running 🌸

Did you know Mareeba once had its very own watchmaker?

John Christian (J.C.) Jacobsen was an early Mareeba pioneer and watchmaker during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His connection to the town lives on today through Jacobsen Street, named in his honour around 1934.

You can step back in time and see the J.C. Jacobsen Watchmaker display right here at the Mareeba Heritage Museum, one of the many pieces of local history waiting to be discovered.

Community Morning tea: Savannah Café – Mareeba Heritage Centre, Thursday 20 August, drop in between 9.30am & 11.30am.

Council is inviting the community to contribute to the Project Blueprint: Living Stories initiative.

Project Blueprint will deliver construction-ready plans to revitalise and future-proof the Mareeba CBD. With the Masterplan now adopted, detailed design plans are underway.
A key part of the landscaping plan is the inclusion of placemaking elements that reflect and celebrate Mareeba's unique stories, culture and character.

We are asking residents to:

Share Your Mareeba Story!
☕ Share a Story
🎨 Inspire a Design
🏡 Shape Our Town

Throughout August, Council invites the community to help shape the CBD's placemaking elements by sharing the stories, cultural and spiritual connections, memories and experiences that best represent Mareeba.
Contributions could inspire the design of custom seating, arbour structures, wayfinding, bollards, footpath inlays, or even future Council projects.

Opportunities to participate
Share your story between Tuesday 11 and Friday 21 August by:
• Completing a story card available at Rankin Street customer service centre or the Mareeba Library,
• Submitting an online form: Submit your Mareeba Story Online Now!

• Visit Council’s website: Mareeba CBD Project Blueprint - Mareeba Shire Council

We're excited to share that our new exhibition, Our Treasures, is now open.

Over the past few months, we've been creating a dedicated exhibition space within the museum, a flexible area that will allow us to host temporary and travelling exhibitions, alongside changing displays from our own collection.

We're delighted to launch the space with Our Treasures, an exhibition celebrating some of the significant objects that help tell the story of Mareeba and the people who shaped our region.

It's a space that will continue to evolve, giving both locals and visitors something new to discover each time they visit.

If you're in town, we'd love you to drop in, explore the exhibition and see what we've been working on.
