Janice Liley's solo exhibition "Between Heaven and the Deep Blue Sea" opens this week and runs till Sunday 24th March 2024.

Janice Liley became a practising artist after completing her BFA in 2007 at The National Art School in Sydney Australia. From the beginning of her career, she was drawn to the Australian landscape, finding beauty in its parched earth and big skies that display a spectacular array of saturated hues and tints.

The works in this exhibition contrast to the filtered light that plays off the verdant rolling hills of northwest England where she grew up. Nevertheless, she finds an affinity between the two countries and enjoys walking through both lands, drawing from the energies and recognising their similarities. Both contain vast webs of ancient landlines and trails brought into being by generations of wandering inhabitants, all of whom left behind their marks indelible etched within the landscape.

Local Manly artist RJ. Menzies returns to Gallery109 with his latest exhibition titled 'Singularity'. The word Singularity in this context refers to "uncontrollable growth", which is definitely descriptive of RJ's life of late.

RJ has recently started full time work as a Drug and Alcohol Counsellor at a front-line residential detox and rehabilitation centre on the Northern Beaches. With this enormous promotion in career has come upgrades in responsibility, income, fitness, lifestyle and spirituality. He finds himself regularly in the ocean and on a yoga matt to compensate, this is reflected on the canvass in his recent works.

This exhibition coincides with Mental Health Awareness month. Multiple pieces are being sold for charities including , Food Ladder and orphanage in Bali.

Maggy Oehlbeck is a Practising Professional Visual Artist, Travel Writer & Photographer, Former Magazine Editor, Professional Actor and Television Presenter. She recently appeared in the popular television series “Old Peoples Home for Teenagers”. She now devotes the majority of her time to painting, drawing and cruise writing.
Maggy's exhibition opens this Friday evening 10th February at 6pm and she would love to see you there to join us in a glass of wine while you view her fabulous paintings. Or drop by the Gallery 11am to 4pm Thursdays to Sundays. Exhibition runs till 26th February 2023.

Now showing at gallery 109 Manly- This collection of works by CLAINE KEILY is titled ‘Other’. In this small series of collages- the genre of the underground rock and punk scene- are a source or reference. The low resolution of the images and the low-tech process, pay homage to images created quickly and cheaply only to be pasted on a city wall or telegraph pole and washed away or pasted over a week later.
The symbolic content in these pieces use the well known symbolism in Christian images. These symbols are defaced, and a new level of meaning is mapped onto the traditional meaning of the works. This series plays with the idea of a malevolent mother who withholds, and makes false promises. In one image titled ‘The Other’, there are signs of a budding hope of love for female children, as the child on the Madonna’s lap has roses spreading from her crotch to symbolise her gender. The small child to the left of the image, is the baby Jesus who is now looked upon, by both animals and the two females in the image, as the other.
