Meet the wildly expressive world of Roy B Wilkins, now on show at Art Sanctuary Gallery.

Born in Greenwich, London and now Melbourne-based, Roy is a largely self-taught artist whose work pulses with incredible energy and instinct. Multiple layering of acrylic, ink, collage and spray paint, he builds richly textured pieces that feel both raw and deliberate.

Inspired by the rhythm of electronic music, his compositions often feature tribal masks and bold abstract iconography, each work telling its own story. Roy’s style is spontaneous, striking and completely unique.

If you’re looking for something with edge, personality and presence… this is it. Savvy collectors will agree!

Gallery closed today (Saturday) due to Anzac Day but open tomorrow Sunday from 10-3 pm. Also open weekdays (except Mondays).

Artist Statement: Whispering Nightfall is an abstract interpretation of dusk, when the blackness of night begins to descend across the sky. In this work, celestial particles drift like dust, leaves, or fragments of light, suggesting both movement and quiet energy. These subtle specks transform the atmosphere into something alive, charged with mystery and beauty. The painting captures the threshold between day and night as more than a fleeting change; it becomes a moment of transformation, where darkness carries its own radiance and possibility, reminding us that endings often whisper with beginnings.

Artist Statement:
Beneath the Riverbed is an abstract reflection on the vitality held within the natural world. Inspired by memories of the Murray River landscape where I grew up, the work draws on the layered colours of riverbeds, terracotta earth, softened sediment, exposed roots and the restless movement of life both seen and unseen. Root-like forms sweep through the painting as living structures, while scattered dots suggest insects, particles and the invisible energy that animates the landscape. This work speaks to connection, memory and place, inviting the viewer to see the riverbed as a vibrant, breathing world both above and beneath the surface.

As the year comes to a close, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful customers, our incredibly talented artists, and our family and friends for the constant encouragement, kind words, and support this year.

This time of year isn’t easy for everyone, so wherever you are and however this season looks for you, I wish you peace, kindness, and moments of calm.
