The Hobos had a memorable workshop yesterday creating wonderful prose and improvs during the ‘From Stage to Page: Drama tips for Writers’ workshop yesterday!
Pictured here are Bernice, Graham, Tricia Juliana and Loise (Renee and Mel absent).

The Hobo’s final workshop for 2025 will be held at Maldon Neighbourhood Centre next Sunday, December 7 from 10am-3pm. The cost is $30 full/$20 concession.
The workshop is called ‘Creating and Performing Stories Through Images and Improvisation’.

DETAILS

Participants will be invited to share their interpretations of images, then work together to explore characters, relationships, and conflicts using improvisations.
This workshop aims to encourage participants to connect with their senses and embrace the joy of playful exploration. By session’s end, participants will have explored how visual imagery can inspire storytelling; collaboration can link the ideas to create a narrative; and improvisation can bring the stories to life!

The Hobos had lots of fun and laughs deconstructing a fairytale to devise an original performance last Sunday. The workshop was part of the Hobo's Improvs and Imagination series at Maldon Neighbourhood Centre which are proving to be a wonderful way for actors to stretch their imaginations, increase spontaneity and think outside the box. Pictured here are Mark, Fran, Josh, Renee, Adrian, Loise, Juliana, Ron and Graham.

AUDITION TIME!

Pillowland is an interactive play for very young theatre audiences (ages 2-6)

"Stanley always has trouble falling asleep – even counting sheep doesn’t help! When he receives an invitation to visit the Kingdom of Pillowland, he sets off on an exciting adventure with his friends Finn and Quinn".

We’re on the lookout for three dynamic, energetic performers (18+) to bring our main characters to life!

Do you have a big personality, love storytelling, and don’t mind spending your day in pyjamas? Then we may have a role for you! While this is not a musical, you’ll need to be comfortable singing a few lines confidently.

Requirements:
Aged 18 or over
Strong stage presence and character work
Comfortable performing in pyjamas (yes, really!)
Some basic singing ability (no professional training required)
Team players with a great sense of fun and flexibility
If you’re enthusiastic, playful, and ready to entertain, we’d love to hear from you!

To apply: Email [email protected] with Pillowland in the subject line

Please note: These are not paid roles, the Creswick Theatre Company is a not for profit organisation and our team donate their time and talents voluntarily.

For the audition, please sing a nursery rhyme or children's song (surprise us). You can sing to a backing track or without, whatever is the most fun for you!

Performances are during the School holidays from October 2 - 4 at 11 am and 2 pm (6 in total)

Rehearsals are planned for Tuesday and Thursday evenings

Directed by Jacinta Antonelli
Technical Director: Rohan McMaster

Written by Barbara Zinn Krieger

Improvs and Imagination - take 2
The Hobo's invite you to explore images, improvisation and a wealth of storytelling possibilities in Workshop 2 of its 'Improvs and Imagination' series.
The workshop will be held at Maldon Neighbourhood Centre on Sunday, March 30 from 10am-3pm.
Storytelling and story making are important tools for actors and writers alike. This workshop aims to inspire all participants to create characters and develop stories by using visual images and improvisation.
It's bound to be lots of fun as participants embody their characters and enact their stories at the end of the session.
Please note numbers are limited to eight participants for these workshops. The cost is $30 full/$20 concession. For bookings visit the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre website.

AUDITIONS FOR OUR 12 MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL: March 11th & 16th
Auditions for our 12 minute play festival will be on March 11th, 6pm-8pm and March, 16th 2-4pm. Venue: Creswick Courthouse Theatre: 2 Raglan St, Creswick

This is a chance for actors and directors to connect, and see if we’re a match for each other for these plays.

You don't have to attend both dates, they are there as options. Please be aware, some directors may only be at one of the dates.

We are suggesting bringing along a short monologue that you are comfortable presenting or reading, and to be prepared for directors to ask you to read from their script as well.

It will be fairly informal, nothing to be too nervous about.
When you arrive, just make yourself comfortable on a chair inside and we will let you know where to go from there. Some directors will take actors to the kitchen area, some in the foyer or backstage dressing areas if we need more space.

Please check your calendars and make sure you are available to perform on Saturday and Sunday the 17th and 18th May, during the day, and may need to be at the theatre anywhere from 12:30pm to 6:30pm those days. If you have any doubts about your availability, please let us know, because we want to make sure that all actors are committed so we are not left without an actor at short notice.

Also, know that this commitment does involve rehearsals, and you will need to have some time available for the rehearsals, including a possible evening technical run with lighting and sound, the week between 12th May and 16th May. Each director will choose their own rehearsal times and dates.

You will also need to learn lines in your own time. Please speak to some of our experienced actors if you have never had to learn lines before and want some tips.

Some directors have already cast their plays, but there are still plays seeking actors of all ages. Directors are going to let me know if they have specific age requirements this week. But I do know that there are a broad range of ages across all scripts.

All the best! Can't wait to meet you!

The Hobos were back in action last Sunday with the first of eight creative workshops called ‘Improvs and Imagination’ at Maldon Neighbourhood Centre.
The aim was to unlock spontaneity and the eight participants certainly did that as they explored a wide range of improvs and drama games.
Imaginations ran wild as they ventured through spooky dark caves, robbed a Parisian art gallery and aged 50 years in 10 minutes. Ah, the magic of improv!
Finally, heaps of laughter erupted during the last group improv of the day as participants played some very dodgy characters at a family reunion. All in all, lots of fun and a terrific afternoon. Huge thanks to the participants, MNC and Learn Local. We can’t wait for the next workshop on Sunday, March 30. For bookings, visit the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre website.
