~ 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗘𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 & 𝗖𝗼𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗲 ~
This weekend, the Longreach Jockey Club proudly honours two great mates and true legends of local racing, Laurie Eisentrager and Col Anderson.
Laurie and Col shared a lifelong friendship, strengthened by their mutual love of racing. Together, they became familiar and much loved figures at race meetings across the region, helping shape the spirit of country racing in Longreach.
𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗘𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 (𝟭𝟵𝟯𝟮–𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟭) supported the Longreach Jockey Club for more than 50 years, serving on the committee and earning Life Membership for his dedication. He was the voice of race day, the man behind the microphone and a familiar name on Radio 4LG.
𝗖𝗼𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 (𝟭𝟵𝟮𝟲–𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟳) was a racing man through and through. A licensed bookmaker from 1967, he was a familiar sight at dusty racetracks across Western Queensland. Col attended an incredible 12 Melbourne Cups and witnessed Makybe Diva claim the first of her historic three victories.
It is fitting that these lifelong friends are remembered together through one special race. A tribute to their friendship, their characters and the lasting contribution they made to racing in Longreach.
