The Trust is independent of Qantas Airways Ltd and is a not-for-profit trust company established by the people of Western Queensland to honour the founders of Qantas and to preserve the heritage of Qantas Airways Ltd. Inside the Qantas Hangar in Longreach during the late 1920s, mechanics worked on the construction of the DH-50.

Between 1926 and 1929, Qantas built seven DH-50s right here in Longreach. In 1928, the first of them would also become Australia's first Flying Doctor aircraft.

There's something pretty special about standing next to an aircraft that spent years carrying people around the world.

Today, our 747, “City of Bunbury,” has a very different job. Instead of flying passengers, it gives the next generation of aviation enthusiasts the chance to get up close, step inside and experience what life was like aboard a Qantas Boeing 747. ✈️

And yes, you can even walk along its 25-metre-long wing.

The DH-61 Giant Moth was part of Qantas' expansion into Brisbane and Western Queensland, carrying seven passengers at a time and even featuring a toilet, a first for an Australian airliner.

That little cabin was part of something much bigger: connecting people and communities across the Outback by air.
