🇬🇧 British Classics Launceston – Sunday 7th June!

Next weekend, on Sunday 7th June, we’re hosting our British Classics Launceston show – and all British cars and motorcycles are welcome to display.

As part of the event, we’ll also have this beautiful 1996 Daimler Double Six on display in our showroom.

When Jaguar released the first XJ in 1968 there was no surprise that a more upmarket Daimler Sovereign arrived shortly after. A V12 version of the XJ followed and the mechanically identical Daimler Double Six version started a long run of models sold alongside the Jaguar for over three decades. The Daimler Double Six sold in far fewer numbers than the equivalent Jaguars. The cars stand as a pinnacle of luxury motoring from the 1990s, blending a powerful V12 engine with an exceptionally refined cabin. The car on display is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 engine, which produces 229kW and is coupled to four-speed automatic transmission. It is finished in Spindrift White, over a Cream leather-trimmed interior with a tan upper dashboard and door cards, deep-pile carpet, and elegant walnut inlays. The car was imported from Japan where it was sold new.

This iconic 1991 Nissan Skyline R32 is currently on display in our main exhibition room.

The car on display created a sensation when it was clocked at 327kph on Conrod straight at Bathurst. This is believed to be the highest speed ever recorded on Conrod. The car was actually doing 338 kph after the speed trap at the braking point for the Chase. The Skyline started life as one of the many grey import R32s. It was purchased in 2010 by local highly regarded tuner and owner of Racetech Performance, Brad Sherriff. Brad began racing the car in the Sports GT class and progressively added more and more power. Eventually in search of serious horsepower a billet block from Bullet Racing Engineering was matched to a bigger precision turbocharger pushing the output to a potential 1450 hp. The car weighs 1330kg, 1450kg in race trim with fuel and driver. It currently holds the sports sedan lap record at Baskerville at 51.4 seconds. It also holds the Symmons Plains lap record for sports sedans at 50.5 secs.

This incredible 1991 Honda NSX is currently on display in our feature theme display 'Auto Culture Japan'

The NSX was designed by a team led by Chief Designer Masahito Nakano and Executive Chief Engineer Shigeru Uehara. It benefited from advanced aerodynamics and styling inspired by a F-16 fighter jet cockpit. The NSX was presented at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show and was built in a purpose-made factory in Japan, it was discontinued in 2005 before being revived in 2016. The Honda became the world's first mass-produced car to feature an all-aluminium body and was powered by an all-aluminium 3.0 L V6 engine featuring Honda's VTEC (Variable Valve Timing) system developed in the 1980`s. The car on display was bought new in the UK and has since under gone a full restoration.

Open 7 days a week.

This beautiful 1972 Holden Torana LJ GTR XU-1 has just arrived in our "Hall of Muscle".

The GTR XU-1 had its Bathurst debut in 1970. With promising results in 1970 and 1971, Holden released an updated XU-1 based on the LJ series for 1972. The car on display is a very early 1972 build and is believed to be one of just seven metallic Phantom Grey cars built that year. The first owner purchased this car in South Australia following his retirement. When he passed away, the car was sold in an estate sale, later being repossessed. For most of its life, it was owned by a lady that owned an orange orchard in Adelaide. This Torana has won fifteen shows in total, including Best Muscle Car in Melbourne. It has been signed by Colin Bond, Harry Firth, Peter Brock, Bev Brock, and Ian Tate, and retains all matching numbers.

The Museum is open 7 days a week from 9am to 5pm.

This sensational 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE has just arrived in our "American Feature Room'

The Challenger name dates back to 1959 when Dodge used it as a value-oriented trim level for its full-size Coronet, the Silver Challenger. The name became its own model in 1970. It shared the E-body platform with the Barracuda, however was larger in nearly every dimension and had more available options. The 1970 model year offered eight optional V8 engines, the model on display is a ‘Special Edition’, fitted with a matching numbers 440 cubic-inch (7.2-litre) ‘Magnum’ engine with a 4-barrel carburettor. Some of the factory fitted options fitted include ‘J54’ – sports hood, ‘N41’ - dual-exhaust, ‘A36’ – performance axle package and ‘C16’ – centre console with woodgrain. The ‘Special Edition’ featured a vinyl roof with ‘SE’ medallions on the pillars, a smaller ‘Formal’ rear window, as well as a more luxurious interior specification. The E-Body Challenger was discontinued in 1974, with no Challenger name until 1978. The return came in the form of a rebadged Mitsubishi Scorpion, with Dodge setting to compete with the Toyota Celica. 2008 saw the return of the Challenger in V8 form, with updated versions of this platform continuing until 2023.

This 2003 Ford Falcon BA XR8 Coupe is currently on display in our 'Hall of Muscle'

The BA Falcon represented a 500 million dollar investment and 24000 hours of engine and durability testing. Germany's Nürburgring test track was used for some suspension testing. Ford never offered a coupe version of its BA Falcon. The car on display was built by Dreamtech a Melbourne based company who specialise in building stretched limousines. The most challenging part of the BA Coupe build was ensuring the side impact protection complied so the car could be registered in any Australian state. The ‘B' pillars have been moved 250mm rearwards, the chassis has been reinforced internally and new doors have been manufactured 250mm longer to suit. New custom door trims, rear trims, windows, weather strips, door rubbers and headlining all had to be produced. The car on display BA Coupe Number One was shown by Dreamtech at the Melbourne International Motor Show in 2003, and was received very positively.
