Thank you once again to South Gippsland Shire Council for awarding us a $10k grant that has enabled us to undertake the essential planning reports, documentation and requirements, needed for our permit to assemble - and get us a giant step closer towards being able to open our Korumburra Women’s Shed.

A BIG week at the Korumburra Women’s Shed! 💜

It’s been a BIG week for our Women’s Shed, and we have some wonderful news to share! 🌿✨

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the Korumburra Women’s Shed & Gallery has been awarded a $10,000 Community Grant from South Gippsland Shire Council. 🎉

This funding will help us with the essential professional work required to progress our Planning Permit Application. This includes the building assessments, plans for the water connection and accessible ramp, professional advice and the documentation we need to move forward.

We are incredibly grateful for this support from South Gippsland Shire Council.

💜 A very special visit to our Shed
Today we also had the pleasure of welcoming Allison Jones, CEO of South Gippsland Shire Council, along with 11 wonderful women from Council, to our Women's Shed.

It was a fantastic opportunity to show our progress so far in getting the shed ready, share our vision for the Women’s Shed, what our Shed will offer women across South Gippsland and beyond, and why having a dedicated space for women to connect, learn, create, grow and thrive is so important.

Suffice to say, Allison and the Council team were really impressed and incredibly supportive of our Women's Shed, our Committee and our amazing community of women. 💜

🛠️ So… where are we up to?
We are getting close.

Our building assessments and plans are nearing completion, and once our Planning Permit Application is submitted and the necessary approvals are in place, we will be one very big step closer to being able to assemble at the Goods Shed and open our doors.

We know the wait has been challenging — it’s certainly been challenging for us too!

But behind the scenes, there has been an enormous amount of work happening to get us to this point. Our Committee and amazing Shed community have continued to work incredibly hard.

We are a resilient group of South Gippsland women, fully committed to opening our Women’s Shed as soon as we can - a welcoming, safe and inclusive place where women can come together to connect, learn, create, share skills, make friendships, try new things, build confidence and simply enjoy being part of a community of women.

🌸 So please, stay the course with us!
We are making progress, and we really are getting closer.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us, encouraged us, been patient with us and continued to believe in what we are building.

We will keep you updated every step of the way — and we cannot wait for the day we can finally open those doors and welcome you into our Korumburra Women’s Shed & Gallery and our community. 🥰

The wait will be worth it. 💜

Another great day with our working bee at our Women’s Shed. The large shelving unit is now in place thanks to Linda, Katherine, Sarah and Grace 🩷
Thank you also to Belinda who made us all the most amazing Pumpkin Soup for lunch - which was sooooo delicious 🩷 and also to Marion who helped us to get organised and get everything clear and ready for the new kitchen cabinets arriving this week.

We have another working bee set for Thursday 4/6 and Saturday 6/6 where we’ll be putting our kitchen cabinets together - ready for install, and finishing some sorting of other work areas.

If you’re able to join us either day for any time we’d love to have you join us.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone 🌸

We are so proud and grateful to be able to share the train engine and carriage created on our behalf, by master blacksmith and artist Brendan Thompson.

These two incredible works of art will be part of the Great Southern Rail Trail (GSRT) Passport Project - being launched by South Gippsland Shire Council in July this year. The Train engine will be for Korumburra and the Train Carriage will be for Bena. On behalf of our Korumburra Women’s Shed Committee and members, we would like to sincerely thank Brendan for this extraordinary contribution to the GSRT Passport Project.

We have been so busy this year getting the Women's Shed set up and ready, that we gratefully accepted Brendan's generous offer to create these two masterpieces on our behalf, for the GSRT Passport project and our community.

As the photos show, Brendan is a master craftsman at the Blacksmith art and dedicated 100 hours to designing, welding and building this beautiful miniature train engine and carriage. His craftsmanship and attention to detail have created something very special — not just functional stamping stations, but pieces that reflect pride, history and community spirit.

We know this remarkable work will continue to bring enjoyment to visitors travelling the Great Southern Rail Trail for many years to come.

This project brought together Men’s and Women’s Sheds from across South Gippsland and Wellington Shires in a wonderful celebration of local creativity and community pride, and Brendan has helped ensure our Korumburra Women's Shed, Korumburra and Bena, are represented in such a memorable and meaningful way.

We are incredibly proud to have this train engine and carriage representing our town and our Shed, and we are deeply grateful for the kindness, hard work and skill Brendan poured into every part of the project.

The Korumburra Womens Shed is excited to share that there is finally some activity towards actually using the shed. We have secured some funding to help with the set up and will be installing some cupboards and shelving over the next few weeks.

We are inviting people who would like to get involved in the process, or to just get to know us, to get in touch via messenger or replying to this post. The workshops will be on Saturdays as well as a couple during the week.

At this stage we will be building IKEA cabinets and installing industrial shelving. We also invite kitchen helpers -we will proving lunch etc for everyone.

If you would like to talk to one of us (we are very friendly) please dm your phone number and we will do our very best to get in touch.

We look forward to hearing from you and sharing our excitement.
Marion -on behalf of the women of the shed.
