🦸 Coal Creek is powered by volunteers.

Without our Council volunteers, the Park you all love and enjoy simply wouldn't be the place it is.

So, in recognition of National Volunteers Week, we caught up with two of our newest volunteers, Stewart and Sharon.

🔨 Stewart has been volunteering as a Blacksmith here for about 6 months. When asked what made him want to volunteer, he said "I love blacksmithing. I have done demonstrations to schools before, and I enjoy showing people how it all works."

🍬 Sharon is part of a group of volunteers who operate our General Store. She has been at Coal Creek just over 6 months and is fascinated by domestic history. We asked her what her favourite part about volunteering was, and she said "using my own interests and sharing them with others."

❤️ Thank you to Stewart, Sharon and all the volunteers at Coal Creek for the work you do keeping the Park beautiful and sharing your skills and interests with those who visit.

As a place that holds some of the stories of earlier generations, we are sharing this information for any community members who would like to mark ANZAC Day by attending one of the local services listed below.

This Saturday is ANZAC Day, a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who came before us.

Here is a list of services happening around South Gippsland:

🔸Fish Creek - 11.00am at the Cenotaph.
🔸Foster - 10.45am at the Cenotaph with a BBQ at the RSL to follow.
🔸Korumburra - 5.45am dawn service (Coleman Park) and 10.15am service (Coleman Park).
🔸Kongwak - 10.00am at the Kongwak Hall.
🔸Leongatha - 5.45am dawn service and 10.45am service at the Cenotaph.
🔸Loch - 5.45 dawn service and 10.30am service at the Cenotaph.
🔸Meeniyan - March at 9.30am from the Cenotaph.
🔸Mirboo North - 5.45am dawn service at Baromi Park and 11.00am service at Mirboo North Secondary College Auditorium.
🔸Mount Eccles - 2.30pm service at 5 Hall Road.
🔸Nyora - 5.30am dawn service at Mitchell Street RSL Park.
🔸 Poowong - 11.45am service at the Cenotaph.
🔸Tarwin Lower - 12.00pm service at the Cenotaph.
🔸Toora - 6.00am dawn service and 10.50am service at the Cenotaph.

🚂 This local visitor stopped by to look at our heritage railway system and snack on some of the tasty green grass nearby.

⛈️ Take a walk through the Park on a chilly, quiet day and you might just see some of our local wildlife too.

📰 Coal Creek will be closed from Monday 20 April, reopening on Thursday 21 May.

🛠️ The temporary closure will allow us to undertake necessary OHS works and improvements to the Main Building to make it a more welcoming space.

🤗 We apologise for any inconvenience and we are looking forward to welcoming you all back in May.

🧶 Join the Coal Creek Spinners these school holidays for a free hands‑on weaving workshop, where kids can create their own woven piece of art.

They’ll learn simple weaving skills they can use again at home to make functional and beautiful creations.
