K&DHS is trying to source a better quality image of this shot taken at Korumburra Station. From the clothing being worn it was probably taken not long after the new station opened in 1908.

As part of our “Great Southern Rail Trail – A Ticket to History” project we are developing interpretive signage for the station complex. We are keen to use this shot or something similar as it shows not only the station but the people using it.

The next meeting of the Korumburra & District Historical Society is on Thursday the 7th of May at 1pm, in Meeting room 1 at the Korumburra Community Hub.
After the meeting, at 2pm we will be joined by Ken Griffiths from South Gippsland Shire who will talk to us about heritage overlays.
This might be of particular interest to people living in Radovick St, or anyone with an interest in preserving the look of our original buildings.
Visitors welcome.

The Historical Society have been approached by Rachael Cottle who is seeing information regarding women working for the Victorian Railways between 1856 and 1983.
We have been able to give her the names of Betty Barnes who operated the gates at Whitelaw station for many years, and Doris Kelly who operated the Refreshment Room at Korumburra Station.
If anyone is able to assist Rachael with any information about these women, or any others who have worked on the railways, please contact her on the email address on the photo.
