Wimmera-Mallee Pioneer Museum

Wimmera-Mallee Pioneer Museum The History, the Heritage, the Life, & Times, of our Pioneer Families, & the fabulous story of how Come and see one of Australia’s best kept secrets!!!
(1)

Sitting on the banks of the Wimmera River, at the southern end of town, and spanning four hectares of land, is the spectacular WIMMERA MALLEE PIONEER MUSEUM. The Museum is preserving, continually growing, and shows life as it was for many pioneers who opened up the northern Wimmera and southern Mallee. It is a “hands on Australian History Lesson” for our young Australians and a trip down memory la

ne for our older generation, a testament to our early pioneers for all generations to see and appreciate. Many of the tractors and machinery are in working order still, and this is demonstrated at the Annual Vintage Rally: Held each year on the QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY LONG WEEKEND – SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. The Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum has a wonderful collection of original buildings from the region, all preserved in their original lay-out, and housing a vast collection of household items, tools from the era and many artefacts telling the story of the history of Jeparit and it’s area, including the people who shaped our town and surrounding communities. The main entrance of the Museum is a beautiful old home, known as Brierly House. There is also Albacutya Homestead, Werrap Hall, Tarranyurk Hall, Woorak Church, Detpa State School, a Chemist and a Blacksmith’s shop, amid the grounds of the Museum, along with the H.V McKay shed, Harvesting machinery shed, Gaols, and many more sheds and areas to poke around in, and discover the heritage within.

🌸 A Mother’s Day to Remember at Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum! 🌸

We hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday! We certainly did here in Jeparit. Werrap Hall was alive with laughter, music, and the incredible spirit of our community.

It was a day full of so many yummy treats! A massive shout-out to our stars in the kitchen:
🍎 Christa for her stunning handcrafted apple roses.
🧁 Wendy for those legendary fluffy scones.
☕ Yours truly for the signature Tiramisu.

The atmosphere was made even more special by Morgan and Paul from Blossom Blend. Their beautiful plants and flowers added that perfect splash of color and elegance to the display. 🌱✨
"A special thank you to Mary for her generous donation of the beautiful, colourful bunting that brightened up the hall and added such a festive touch to our Mother's Day celebration! 🌈🚩"

A huge thank you to Craige for the music, and our dedicated volunteers Gordon, Kenny, and the whole team behind the scenes. Our volunteers work hard week in and week out to keep our doors open and our history alive—we couldn't do it without them!

Most importantly, thank you to our guests—your support and presence made this a truly memorable day.

Today we had the pleasure of hosting Marion Littlejohn at the Museum. Marion is President of the Ballarat Historical Society but for more than twenty years she was Education Officer at Sovereign Hill, where she remains an active volunteer. Marion had offered some time ago to visit our Museum to advise on how best to develop an educaton program for children of various ages. It was great seeing our exhibits - many going back almost sixty years - through someone else's eyes and with their expertise. We explored the collections in each building and I learned things I'd not known about many items. Marion kindly donated from Sovereign Hill a number of activity items for us to use for which we are grateful. Marion's insights - but also her passion and skills - will be extremely useful for us in constantly trying to improve the visitor experience at the Museum. Incidentally, Marion is no stranger to our area as in the '80s she taught history at Dimboola Memorial Secondary College and more than forty years ago she would bring school groups to our Museum. Thank you for your insights, enthusiasm and generosity, Marion. (Photo: Marion with WMPM committee member Craige Proctor.)

Yesterday we hosted the lovely volunteers from the Nhill Visitor Information Centre. We were part of their road trip to see the tourism sites around the Hindmarsh Shire, to bring a richer experience to visitors to our region. We were pleased to show them our newly renovated displays in our original Wattle and daub built Werrap Hall, and Albacutya Homestead. Thankyou all for dropping in for an all too brief visit!. Its always lovely to catch up with fellow dedicated community members. Keep up your great work! Nhill Wimmera Mallee
