VOLUNTARY POSITION
Caretaker / Groundskeeper / Museum Guide
Irvinebank School of Arts and Progress Association
The Irvinebank School of Arts and Progress Assoc is seeking expressions of interest from a responsible and community-minded individual or couple to take on a voluntary Caretaker / Groundskeeper / Museum Guide position at the historic Loudoun House Museum in Irvinebank, Queensland.
Accommodation is provided with the position in exchange for carrying out the duties outlined below.
About the Position
The position involves assisting with the day-to-day care, presentation and operation of the Museum complex and residence.
Museum Guide duties
• Welcoming and assisting visitors to Loudoun House Museum.
• Providing information about the history of the Museum, Irvinebank and the local tin-mining industry.
• Assisting with the care and presentation of the Museum's collection of local memorabilia, photographs, documents, records and artefacts.
• Museum opening hours and duties will be determined in consultation with the successful applicant.
• There’s a team of volunteer museum guides, and a roster system. Hours to be negotiated around availability and some relief shifts when a volunteer is away.
Groundskeeping duties
• Mowing and whipper snipping.
• Watering gardens and grounds.
• Raking leaves and general grounds maintenance.
• Equipment will be provided.
General maintenance and administration
• Basic handyperson tasks associated with the upkeep and operation of the Museum and residence.
• Basic computer skills are required for research, record keeping and other administrative tasks.
• Handling money and operating EFTPOS facilities as required.
What We're Looking For
The successful applicant will need to:
• Be comfortable meeting and interacting with members of the public.
• Be able to liaise positively with members of the Irvinebank School of Arts and Progress Committee.
• Have a willingness to assist with the general upkeep and presentation of the Museum complex.
• Have basic computer skills and be comfortable undertaking research and record keeping.
• Be reliable, responsible and able to work independently.
• Be comfortable undertaking general groundskeeping and basic maintenance tasks.
A police check and references will be required as part of the application process.
Members of the association will provide further information about the duties and requirements as the application process progresses.
Accommodation
Accommodation is provided as part of this voluntary position.
The residence is currently in need of renovation and upgrading. Applicants should therefore be comfortable with renovation and improvement work being undertaken while they are living in the premises.
Pets may be considered; however, they must be kept within a suitable fenced area so they do not adversely affect Museum visitors. Maintaining this area and ensuring pets are appropriately contained will be the responsibility of the caretaker.
