Grab your gloves, we're calling on the community. Join us for our first Community Marine Debris Survey on Saturday 5 September, 8am to 10am, meeting at Yugari Drive, Hastings Point.

Free entry to the Marine Discovery Centre included, plus you'll be helping build a clearer picture of what's washing up on our coast.

Book now for the Mangrove Mysteries homeschool session this Monday 10th August. Trek through the mangroves, spot the wildlife hiding in the roots, then get hands-on with microscopes back at the Discovery Centre. $30 per student, one parent included. Link in bio lock in your spot.

There's a whole hidden world tangled up in these roots. Session three of our homeschool program is here, and this one takes us deep into the mangroves. Trek through the mangrove forest to discover why this quiet, muddy ecosystem is actually one of the ocean's most important nurseries, and what's putting it at risk. Back at the Marine Discovery Centre, we swap the first for the microscope. 🔬 Students get hands-on to uncover the tiny creatures holding up this vital coastal ecosystem. Watch the octopus hold the crab's pincers apart after the catch, a small but brilliant bit of strategy most people would walk straight past without noticing. This is the kind of real, wild moment your kids get to witness up close at our Rocky Shore homeschool session.

What's the best thing you've ever found at the rocky shore? 🌊 For us, it's moments like this green brittle star (Ophiarachna incrassata) on the move. Low tide hits different at golden hour.

When the water pulls back, a whole secret world opens up. See those little clusters on the rocks? Sea sq**rts. Give one a gentle nudge and it'll sq**rt water right back at you, which is exactly how they got their name.
