On Anzac Day, we remember service in all its forms.

Nora Heysen, Australia’s first female official war artist, documented World War II with compassion and clarity.

Nora’s work reminds us that remembrance is also about the stories we choose to see.

Lest we forget.

The Heysen Gallery has been taking shape behind the scenes… and we’re nearly there.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve been working closely with Fore Design to bring the vision of the Heysen Gallery to life. What started as an idea is now a space we’re incredibly proud of. Built with intention, detail, and a deep respect for what this gallery represents.

We can’t wait to open the doors and share it with you in the coming months.

Gums and Cattle, 1939.
Sir Hans Heysen.

Capturing the quiet strength and spirit of the Adelaide Hills landscape through watercolour. Nearly a century on, these same landscapes continue to inspire, offering a glimpse into the beauty that inspired his work.

Gum trees weren’t just part of the landscape, they were Sir Hans Heysen's greatest source of inspiration. Their towering presence, shifting light, and intricate forms shaped some of his most iconic works, capturing The Cedars.

The very same gum trees that moved Heysen more than 90 years ago continue to rise above The Cedars, unchanged and quietly powerful.

Come and experience the inspiration for yourself.

3 Reasons you need to visit The Cedars this Autumn!🌿🍂
If you're heading to South Australia for Gather Round, don't just stop at the footy. The Adelaide Hills is calling your name, and The Cedars is an absolute must!

1. The Gardens are magical in Autumn 🍁
The Artist's Garden is at its most beautiful this time of year. Sir Hans Heysen planted the gardens himself, and walking through it in the golden autumn light feels like stepping into one of his paintings.

2. Experience the History 🎨
The Cedars is one of the most intact heritage properties in Australia. Tour the Heysen home and explore Australia's OLDEST preserved artist's studio, and discover the studio of Nora Heysen, the first woman to win the Archibald Prize.

3. Pop in for a bite to eat at the Cafe!
After a tour, grab a seat at the Cedars' Kitchen café overlooking the garden and enjoy homemade treats with a warm cup of tea or coffee.
