The Greenough Museum is evolving to meet the needs of visitors and the community. Wander through Elizabeth's Garden and the Community Vegie Garden.

Discover the social history of Greenough set up in the spacious rooms of what was once the largest house in this area (built between 1862-80 for John & Elizabeth Maley). View the historic trees (including what could be Australia's oldest leaning gum tree). The museum's aim is to provide an interpretation of life of the Greenough Flats from Aboriginal times to today. This is no longer your traditional house museum. Prepare to be surprised. This museum gratefully acknowledges support from the City of Greater Geraldton.

Jack Xia created this delightful drawing of the interior of the Maid's Room.
We live in an age when taking a photo is so easy and instantaneous. This makes one realises the time commitment a person has to make in observation and then in the placing marks on paper to create a drawing like this.
In this technological world, hopefully there always will be a place for art like this.
Thank you Jack, and thank you to everyone who help support this museum in so many different ways.

Many thanks to Mandy Thorp for her recent donation of this King of the Road Sulky to the museum.
The sulky c1890 is the type of vehicle more prosperous people like John Maley would have used at Greenough.

This is promising to be a very exciting weekend, if you are seeking peace and quiet, come visit the museum. The gardens are favouring purple.
The museum will also be open on Monday from 10.00am to 3.00pm.

We are pleased to announce that at the conclusion of the GM&GCA AGM yesterday, Margaret Jones was presented with an Honorary Life Membership in recognition of her dedicated service to this museum.
Margaret started off as a volunteer cleaning at this museum in February 2014. Since then she has also taken on the roles of assistant curator, committee member, chairperson and deputy chair.
The museum today is a much better place because of Margaret's involvement.
Gary Martin, curator, presented Margaret with her certificate along with a big thank you from all who volunteer here.

🥳 🍾 Celebrating 60 years of the Greenough Museum & Gardens (1966-2026) Museum Curator Gary Martin has compiled and published the book 60 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 60 𝑻𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔 showcasing some of the collection's most treasured stories and artifacts.

We would like to send out a massive thankyou to all who helped make the museum's 60th birthday such a success.
- to the museum volunteers who made sure the place looked fabulous; who helped set up; who organised the catering, and made such a beautiful birthday cake,
- to the performers, narrator, and sound technician who presented exerts from "The Wheat Queen,"
- to the Mayor Jerry Clune and deputy Mayor Natasha Colliver for participating in the festivities,
- to all who attended,
and to the rain gods who held off until the event finished.

This, the oldest museum in the Mid-west celebrates its 60th anniversary today. Right from the start it has been dependent upon the support of volunteers and the donors of objects to function.
Over those years this museum has seen three name changes and a change of management.
The museum continues to evolve, so to remain relevant to all who visit this place.
As part of the 60th celebrations, we are giving you the opportunity to visit this museum on Saturday 5th September between 8.30am and 2.30pm free of charge.
Even if you have been before, take up this opportunity, because as our logo states, you will "Discover something different every time."
