Fabulous day of celebration for Capt Charles Sturt’s 231rd birthday on 28th April! Members, donors, friends (and a few stakeholders) gathered in the Heritage Garden of the Museum on a beautiful sunny afternoon, joined by members of the Victoriana Society dressed in their finery. The historic Fort Glanville cannon was fired, the Adelaide Regiment in Victorian dress uniforms fired their rifles (blanks of course) and the British national anthem sung. All part of the annual tradition of the Museum’s salute and tribute to Sturt.
The annual Sturt address given by Denise Schumann highlighted how views of history change over time and encouraged us to consider just how extraordinary Sturt's achievements were in the context of 1840’s South Australia. A poem by Kaiden Smith (tour guide) concluded formalities.
